Control of Rat Testicular Monoamine Oxidase (Mao) Activity: Hypophysectomy, Adrenalectomy, FSH, LH, Prolactin, HCG, and Testosterone.
Monoamine oxidase activity (MAO) was measured in male rate using homogenized testicular tissue preparations. Rats were subjected to hypophysectomy, adrenalectomy, and treatment with HCG, FSH, LH, Prolactin, or a combination of FSH, LH, and Prolactin. Hypophysectomy of male rats at three or ten weeks of age significantly reduced testicular MAO activity when these animals were cmpared with controls. HCG treatment in hypophysectomized animals significantly increased androgen synthesis and prosate and seminal vesicle weights, but had no effect on MAO activity. Treatment with FSH, LH, or a combination of FSH, LH, and Prolactin increased MAO activity in hypophysectomized animals. FSH was the most effective in increasing testicular MAO activity. Adrenalectomy had no effect on MAO activity.

Damping of Dislocation Motion by Conduction Electrons in Metals.
The rate of energy absorption from a moving dislocation by conduction electrons is recalculated using the semiclassical Boltzman transport equation and the model of a free electron gas. Temperature-independent values of the electronic damping coefficients for edge and screw dislations are found in similar magnitudes. The results are compared to previous work by Kravchenko and Brailsford.

During the quarter covered by this progress report (July 15October 15, 1972), the power requirements of a bench test heart pump were determined. Cardiac output response, peak pusher cup forces, and power efficiencies were also determined. These measurements were made in vitro. Several geometries of connectors for the heart pump were evaluated for fit in dead calves to determine a practical configuration. Two models of the nuclear engine were implanted in calves to evaluate the chronic effects of engine weight and size. (auth)
