Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Mammoth Eufuala Dam, under construction since 1956, will impound a reservoir, entirely within the state, that will overshadow even Lake Texoma which Oklahoma shares with Texas. Construction of Eufaula dam is near midway point. Water is to be available for power in 1964 and the lake is to be filled by 1965. Six eastern Oklahoma counties will share a direct benefit from the huge, new reservoir. it will extend into each of them. But the new lake, which will have a surface area 7,000 acres greater than Lake Texoma, presently the state's largest, will be a big recreational attraction for the entire state. Heavy western Oklahoma traffic is expected to be able to zoom to the Eufaula areaon high-speed, four lane I.H. 40 eventually. The first part of the 70-mile per hour freeway already is started. The reservoir will be principally in McIntosh, Haskell, Pittsburg and Okmilgee counties, but smaller areas will touch Muskogee and Latimer counties. Surface of its power pool will cover 102,5000 acres, compared with only 95,400 acres for Lake Texoma......Initial construction on this project to dam the waters of the Canadian between two bluff approcimately …

Now, it is about to be finished, and Oklahoma City public events officials are busy lining up attractions to follow the opening in October. A committee of civic leaders has been appointed by Mayor Latting to chart a gala opening to include top-name entertainment, a state-wide press preview and public tours. One word describes the Myriad best. It's BIG. The center covers most of a four-square-block in the heart of downtown......The Myriad has more floor space than the 35-story Liberty Tower soaring above it to the north. It has 950,000 square feet of space above the ground and 575,000 below. More than 1,140 automobiles can park in the underground lot."

About 150 Nicoma Park students will move to the newly constructed Nicoma Park Junior High School early in February, George Cox, Choctaw superintendent, estimated. Luther Cox, principal at Nicoma Park elementary school, said the move would include only seventh and eighth grade students this year. Sixth and ninth grades will be added at the beginning of the next school year, he explained. The new building, part of the Choctaw system, features 10 classrooms, a cafetorium and gymnasium. Two of the classrooms were constructed specifically for home economics classes and a science room. The school was built to accomodate 250 students, George Cox said, but plans are already under way to extend that to 300 students. There are over 500 students now attending the Choctaw Junior High School, which currently serves the Nicoma Park area, he said. School buses from Choctaw school will unload all Nicoma Park students at the new school, Cox explained. Three new teachers have been added to the faculty to take care of the immediate expansion and five extra teachers are anticipated by the …

Caption: "City officials across Oklahoma are optimistic that 1971 will bring a new kind of assistance in solving the perennial urban dilemma of too little money to meet too many demans. They believe this will be the year Congress makes a start on some kind of program to share federal income tax revenue with local governments. "This (the cities) is where the big problems are," Clinton City Manager James Luckett said. City Manager Don Grimes of McAlester said he feels unified pressure by state, county and city governments for revenue sharing is so strong that the federal government won't be able to resist it. "I think it's going to be a 'must' for cities of all sizes," Woodward City Mananager Richard Crocker said. Oklahoma City Manager Robert H. Oldland called revenue sharing by the federal government "the most likely immediate solution" to urban financial problems.
