Wiggins writes that Dallas ISD will be unable to continue their participation in the extension of the Getty grant for the 1995-1996 school years, due to time consideration and budgeting. However, there might be a possibility for participation for the 1997-1998 school year if they're able to pick up DISD's school funding needs. Wiggins concludes, saying how much she enjoyed her involvement with the NTIEVA consortium and to let them know of any opportunities to work with North Texas and the Getty Foundation again.

In regards to an upcoming class visitation on January 8th and how Broadus will plan to present a lesson dealing with winter. Broadus plans on bringing a reproduction of a winter landscape or something visually similar, in order to get the children to talk about the art.

Photocopy of a letter from Kevin J. Comerford, Visual Resource Librarian of the Dallas Museum of Art, to Bill McCarter, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. In regards to some Museum rights that North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts violated in regards to the printing and reproduction of photographic work. Comerford writes that the DMA is happy to participate as a consortia of NTIEVA, however, they need to follow standardized requirements listed in the letter. All further correspondence should be sent to Comerford's office addressed listed at the end of the letter.

Photocopy of a letter from Leilani Lattin Duke, director of the Getty Center, to Harriet Laney, in response to Laney's request for the Center to send the Texas PTO Presidents complimentary copies of the PTA kid. Duke responds that she wants to think about this request as they are only given a specific amount of copies, so as to not undercut the National PTA who sells copies of the kit. Duke will consider Laney's request if she sends a draft of the cover letter the Texas Institute would receive with the kits. Copied on the letter is Jack Davis, Bill McCarter and Vicki Rosenberg.

Describing the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts fifth year as a staff development program for the school districts and museums, and as such Davis and McCarter established an advisory board several years to serve the community as well as receive their input. Davis and McCarter continue, explaining how fortunate they are to have Jan Muhlert, Director of the Amon Carter Museum chair their board, and how much they would like to have Munoz serve as a board member for the Institute. At the end of the letter Davis and McCarter ask Munoz to take their request into consideration and that the board will meet at the Amon Carter December 1 at 4 pm. The letter mentions a fact sheet being given to Munoz about current board members, fact sheet not present with letter. Copied on the letter is Jan Muhlert.

Broadus has given Sears lesson plans from Kay Alexander's Learning to Look and Create: The SPECTRA Series. Broadus writes that the art curriculum offers numerous ideas for correlating activities with concepts and addresses interdisciplinary curriculum ideas, highlighting some important introductory lesson plans that Broadus believes will be useful for Sears. Lesson plans are missing from letter.

The letter is in regards to a discussion over advocacy programs and wanting to discuss these ideas with school board members / political leaders to have them look in depth at the discipline-based art education and what contributions it makes to the education of the students. Davis and McCarter mention the Texas Association of School Boards, TASB and believe they could be used a vehicle for doing most of the ground work on advocacy. If NTIEVA works with TASB now they can get a presentation together on art education for their annual conference. Davis and McCarter end the letter by thanking Whatley for her ideas and to contact them if she has any others. In regards to an invitation to a multi-year project sponsored by the Getty Center and the College Board, "The Role of the Arts in Unifying the High School Curriculum." The goal of the project is to expand the scope of school reform by demonstrating how the arts can strengthen the high school curriculum. Duke has provided a Request for Proposal, RFP, and encourages them to share the RFP with the schools who will have an interest with the program and to send their interest letter by March 20, 1995 and their submission by May 31, 1995.

The first video is, Art Education Is More than Art Education, a video which focuses on art specialists and teachers in the classroom as they share their perspective on art education. The second video is, Art Education in Action: An All-Participants Day Video Teleconference, a recording of the Center's first national teleconference broadcasted in 1994 and reached more than 8,000 educators.

Photocopy of a letter from Julie Abel, Program Associate, Getty Center for Education in the Arts, to the Regional Institute Directors, in discussion of the Microsoft education CD ROM products inventory in relation to the arts education. Abel writes that she is sending them this inventory in order to get their thoughts on if or how they could be used in the summer institutes or the national specialty programs. If the CD's were used, the Getty would need a report back from the directors on how they were used and by who.

Brenda references a luncheon conversation between them and that the information was stimulating, she commends them for the work they've been doing and the importance it provides towards education reform and young people. She ends the note with a "Bravo," and her signature.

Thanking Kolter for allowing Broadus visit her class and viewing how improved the children have become since the implementation of the NTIEVA's project about discipline-based art education. Broadus writes that she will be coming back to the school to give the first grade classrooms a 30 minute presentation, and for Kolter to make time preparations for that event.

Warwick is seeking help to formulate new ideas and ways to put together a UIL Picture Memory Contest for the elementary students. Enclosed in the letter is a list that Warwick asks her colleagues to fill out with further suggestions and to send them back to her before the school year.

In regards to the team of teachers from the school participating in the summer institute conducted by North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. They are enclosing information about the institute which will be held at the University of North Texas from June 11th - 29th, while several other days will be spent in Dallas and Fort Worth.

In discussion of Bernau's involvement with developing Creating and Beyond: Arts Education for a Changing World. However, due to the Center's changes in educational environment and demands on resources they've decided not to proceed with the publication of the work, but thank Bernau for the contribution made to the project. As consolation to Bernau's efforts, the Center would like to invite her to the upcoming national conference, "Education for the Workplace through the Arts."

Photocopy of a letter from Nancy Reynolds, Project Coordinator of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Denton and Pilot Point Art Specialists. Reminding them of the meeting at the Multicultural Seminar at the Dallas Museum of Art February 29th, and asks of them to bring their school's work in the NTIEVA Educational Exhibit. If the specialists are unable to make it that day to call the NTIEVA office to make arrangements for them to acquire their work. The rest of the letter goes into details about Brent Wilson, the Getty's evaluator for NTIEVA having interest in visiting Denton and Pilot Point schools, Reynolds writes that she'll be in contact with further details soon.

In regards to Plano's commitments to North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts and that their Site Coordinator Lynda Alford will contribute 50% of her time during the 93-94 calendar year to activities related to the staff development of DBAE. Along with six other art specialists / teachers who will also give time towards DBAE. Attached to the letter are stipend worksheets for the current salary for the faculty to be involved with the program.

McCarter writes that Mitchell's participation in the workshop for Art Teachers from Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD was very appreciated and that Mitchell brings a special insight into the problems NTIEVA faces. McCarter writes that Mitchell and Sonja Starnes should be able to build a DBAE program for the schools.

In regards to requesting the chairpersons of kindergarten, second and third grade to identify themes for the upcoming 1991 NTIEVA summer institute. Broadus writes that the themes themes will be taught throughout the year to the children and she's looking forward to their contribution.

Informing them that they need a brief description of DBAE, discipline-based art education, and the four disciplines. The brief descriptions will be used to create an easy-to-understand description for the information sent to general classroom teachers.

Photocopy of a letter from Cassandra Broadus, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Melanie Wright, Dallas Museum of Art. Broadus requests the use of two or three permanent pieces from the DMA to use in "Art-O-Gram" and "Class Acts" an art education newspaper series in the Fort Worth Star Telegram. The articles are designed for children to give them something more than just an art project but to talk about and view work critically and develop better communication skills.

In reference to a letter Dorothy had sent to Kathy Talley-Jones of the Getty Center, about some concerns Andrews had after attending a Texas Arts Education Association conference. In particular, some concerns about what Dr. Fox has said during the conference which Reynolds finds disturbing, as many other faculty had not reported it from that perspective. The rest of the letter goes into details about North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, and the good they have been doing for Texas institutes and higher arts education.

McCarter writes that from the point of view of NTIEVA, there has been new energy and focus from Woolery's good words from their panel, TASA/TASB. It gave NTIEVA them insight into the leadership Woolery is providing. McCarter also writes that they appreciate Dr. Skinner and Bill Cormack, who have proven themselves as able spokespersons for the distract during their recent meeting at the Dallas Museum between DMA Education Committee and members of the Board of the Marcus Foundation. McCarter ends the letter by stating that NTIEVA is in the early stages of planning for activities during the summer of 1995 and that the involvement of the Dallas teachers makes them look forward to another successful Institute.
