Saying how much she enjoyed meeting with Henderson and a woman named Pam at a Museum meeting, and for the resources provided by the museum to the art specialists and coordinators of the NTIEVA institute. Cason writes that she loved the postcards provided by the museum and has attached a chart, which shows how the schools in each district will be added to the Institute year.

The letter describes the work done by Davis and McCarter, through the use of the Edward and Betty Marcus Foundation grant, to produce portfolios using images from the five museums that are apart of the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts consortium. The grant allowed them to produce 500 copies of the portfolio, which were given at no cost to the schools in the consortium for educational purposes, however, because of the popularity of the portfolio and the limited number of the original publication they have been contacted by vendors who have interest in producing the portfolio commercially. Davis and McCarter write about what a great opportunity this could mean when it comes to resources for the continued work of the Institute, yet one issues is that the Museum has to give them written consent to reproduce the images and content.

Abel writes that each person will receive his or her own invitation with exhibit booth information.

In regards to the success of the 1991 summer institute in the implementation of DBAE, discipline-based art education and that the teachers and administrators from Plano worked very hard for the two weeks. NTIEVA has already begun to plan for the 1992 summer institute and need some materials from the district by October 15, in order to insure the continuation of funding from the Getty Center. Incidentally the second page of the letter is to Ronald Caloss, from September 20, 1991. The second page finishes the letter from the first.

In regards to their informative progress report covering January through June of 1993. Rosenberg writes that their FY94 request for funding has been delivered to Leilani Lattin Duke's hands and forwarded to Harold Williams of J. Paul Getty Trust for review. Rosenberg writes that she has every confidence that Williams will approve of the funding.

In regards to the panel discussion, "Administrators as Leaders in the Arts," which has been scheduled for October 1, 1994 in the Dallas Convention Center. The panel discussion will focus on the significance of the arts in the schools, emphasizing that the arts are part of the Goal 2000, the national standards and state mandated elements. As panel members it is important they address how important the art education and the affects North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts will have on school districts. McCarter and Davis have enclosed a schedule for the panel, that the recipients can modify or supply suggestions. Schedule not present with letter.

In regards to a completed proposal for the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, that they have attached to the letter. Davis and McCarter write that they would appreciate going over with their superintendents to discuss the financial commitments. The success of the proposal will have mutual benefits on the districts if NTIEVA is able to obtain the grant, so they can continue their goal of implementing the DBAE program. The rest of the letter summarizes the budgeting and things needed to be negotiated with the Getty Center. Enclosed with the letter is a check list of materials NTIEVA needs from the project coordinators no later then April 11 as the proposal is due April 15.

Photocopy of a letter from Janice Wiggins, Visual Arts Specialist of the Dallas Public Schools, to Jack Davis and Bill McCarter, co-directors for North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. Wiggins writes that due to budget and time constraints that Dallas ISD will be unable to continue their participation in the extension of the Getty grant for the 1995-1996 school year. Wiggins goes onto to say that their visual arts teachers have been positive about the impact that NTIEVA programs have had on the schools. Wiggins hopes that Davis and McCarter will continue to keep them in the loop when opportunities to work with North Texas and the Getty Foundation arises.

In regards to confirm an appointment on August 31 to discuss the North Texas Regional Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. McCarter and Davis write a little bit about what the program intends to do, such as prepare teachers and school administrators to implement discipline-based art education on a district wide basis, and wishing to discuss in further detail to Rach on what their program can do for the FWISD schools.

In regards to the College Board / Getty Center project, "The Role of Arts in Unifying the High School Curriculum." The response for the project has been well-received with three hundred and thirty-six letters to submitted of intent. Pankratz thanks Davis and McCarter for the role they did in making high schools in their region aware of the project. Copied on the letter is Vicki Rosenberg.

In regards to having read over the proposal CCISD wants to make to the Texas Commission of the Arts and have sent back letters of support to help weigh the scales in CCISD's favor. However, in CCISD's proposals they use "Getty Center for the Visual Arts" as part of the description in partnership which is not accurate as the partnership is between NTIEVA and CCISD. They much correct their mistake as NTIEVA does not wish to get into hot water with the Getty over similar mistakes.

In regards to Crow's attendance and contribution to NTIEVA's Leadership Retreat, June 1st. Because of Crow's experience in problems of funding in the arts they have reserved special time for Crow to give informal observations. Included in the letter are a few points that McCarter and others would like to consider going over.

In regards to the information that they sent about NTIEVA and how successful the institute has been in helping students excel in fundamental areas of their curriculum. Horn writes that he supports the self-sustaining organizations and thanks them for the information provided by their active system in the district.

In regards to having staff faculty from the Marcus Foundation Board invited to the January conference as Melba Whatley is concerned about educating the board and feels like the conference would be a good opportunity. Davis understands, however, that not all the board members are able to attend due to the limited spacing the Getty Center has but would appreciation anything they can put together.

In regards Chapman being unable to attend either of the principal's sessions during the 1991 Summer Institute and that the institute was a real success due to the great measure of the contributions of the classroom teachers and art specialists, named as such, Marilyn Duncan, Laurie Bargsley and Pam Stephens. McCarter and Davis end the letter that each school teacher are to complete a plan for the DBAE implementation into their classrooms and that Chapman is to review the plan with his staff.

McCarter believes the workshop went very well and that faculty from Bedford Heights had shown sincere enthusiasm about the program.

Writing that she is cancelling her Research and Reading group so that she can work longer with the museum educators on the Art Education / Art History meeting and hopes that McCarter can set together an agenda on what she should accomplish. Second is that she's spoke with Irene Martin at the Thyssen asking if NTIEVA will allow her to translate parts of their book into Italian for the Lugano workshop, and allowing them to have the first fifty books for free and paying $5 for every book afterwards. Scribbled at the bottom reads, "How did San Antonio go?"

Davis and McCarter tell Sonnenberg that the Edward and Betty Marcus Foundation has made a three year grant of $225,000 to the NTIEVA, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, completing the matching grant made by the Getty Center of Education in the Arts, and insures the five year operation Institute plan. However, since NTIEVA's projected budget exceeds the minimum they are going to continue to seek additional support to meet the demands for their current and future projects. Davis and McCarter continue to write that Jan Muhlert, Director of the Amon Carter Museum has agreed to chair the Advisory Committee for the Institute, a position that was vacated when E.A. Benge ask Davis to advise the chairman, E.A. Carmean, how pleased she is to serve the committee, and that she enthusiastic about the programs future towards educational reform and the arts disciplines for children.

The Institute is excited to have E.A. Carmean, Director of the Ft. Worth Modern Art Museum, serve as chair of the committee. Their first scheduled meeting will be a luncheon on May 25, 1990 at the University Union.
