Davis and McCarter continue, explaining how fortunate they are to have Jan Muhlert, Director of the Amon Carter Museum chair their board, and how much they would like to have Munoz serve as a board member for the Institute. At the end of the letter Davis and McCarter ask Munoz to take their request into consideration and that the board will meet at the Amon Carter December 1 at 4 pm. Broadus has given Sears lesson plans from Kay Alexander's Learning to Look and Create: The SPECTRA Series. Broadus writes that the art curriculum offers numerous ideas for correlating activities with concepts and addresses interdisciplinary curriculum ideas, highlighting some important introductory lesson plans that Broadus believes will be useful for Sears. The letter is in regards to a discussion over advocacy programs and wanting to discuss these ideas with school board members / political leaders to have them look in depth at the discipline-based art education and what contributions it makes to the education of the students. Davis and McCarter mention the Texas Association of School Boards, TASB and believe they could be used a vehicle for doing most of the ground work on advocacy. If NTIEVA works with TASB now they can get a presentation together on art education for their annual conference. Davis and McCarter end the letter by thanking Whatley for her ideas and to contact them if she has any others. In regards to an invitation to a multi-year project sponsored by the Getty Center and the College Board, "The Role of the Arts in Unifying the High School Curriculum." The goal of the project is to expand the scope of school reform by demonstrating how the arts can strengthen the high school curriculum. Duke has provided a Request for Proposal, RFP, and encourages them to share the RFP with the schools who will have an interest with the program and to send their interest letter by March 20, 1995 and their submission by May 31, 1995.

The first video is, Art Education Is More than Art Education, a video which focuses on art specialists and teachers in the classroom as they share their perspective on art education. The second video is, Art Education in Action: An All-Participants Day Video Teleconference, a recording of the Center's first national teleconference broadcasted in 1994 and reached more than 8,000 educators.

Photocopy of a letter from Julie Abel, Program Associate, Getty Center for Education in the Arts, to the Regional Institute Directors, in discussion of the Microsoft education CD ROM products inventory in relation to the arts education. Abel writes that she is sending them this inventory in order to get their thoughts on if or how they could be used in the summer institutes or the national specialty programs. If the CD's were used, the Getty would need a report back from the directors on how they were used and by who.

Thanking them for inviting her to be a member of the Advisory Committee of the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. Brenda references a luncheon conversation between them and that the information was stimulating, she commends them for the work they've been doing and the importance it provides towards education reform and young people. She ends the note with a "Bravo," and her signature.

Thanking Kolter for allowing Broadus visit her class and viewing how improved the children have become since the implementation of the NTIEVA's project about discipline-based art education. Broadus writes that she will be coming back to the school to give the first grade classrooms a 30 minute presentation, and for Kolter to make time preparations for that event.

Enclosed in the letter is a list that Warwick asks her colleagues to fill out with further suggestions and to send them back to her before the school year.

In regards to the team of teachers from the school participating in the summer institute conducted by North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. They are enclosing information about the institute which will be held at the University of North Texas from June 11th - 29th, while several other days will be spent in Dallas and Fort Worth.

In discussion of Bernau's involvement with developing Creating and Beyond: Arts Education for a Changing World. However, due to the Center's changes in educational environment and demands on resources they've decided not to proceed with the publication of the work, but thank Bernau for the contribution made to the project. As consolation to Bernau's efforts, the Center would like to invite her to the upcoming national conference, "Education for the Workplace through the Arts."

Photocopy of a letter from Nancy Reynolds, Project Coordinator of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Denton and Pilot Point Art Specialists. Reminding them of the meeting at the Multicultural Seminar at the Dallas Museum of Art February 29th, and asks of them to bring their school's work in the NTIEVA Educational Exhibit. If the specialists are unable to make it that day to call the NTIEVA office to make arrangements for them to acquire their work. The rest of the letter goes into details about Brent Wilson, the Getty's evaluator for NTIEVA having interest in visiting Denton and Pilot Point schools, Reynolds writes that she'll be in contact with further details soon.

In regards to Plano's commitments to North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts and that their Site Coordinator Lynda Alford will contribute 50% of her time during the 93-94 calendar year to activities related to the staff development of DBAE. Along with six other art specialists / teachers who will also give time towards DBAE. Attached to the letter are stipend worksheets for the current salary for the faculty to be involved with the program.

McCarter writes that Mitchell's participation in the workshop for Art Teachers from Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD was very appreciated and that Mitchell brings a special insight into the problems NTIEVA faces. McCarter writes that Mitchell and Sonja Starnes should be able to build a DBAE program for the schools.

In regards to requesting the chairpersons of kindergarten, second and third grade to identify themes for the upcoming 1991 NTIEVA summer institute. Broadus writes that the themes themes will be taught throughout the year to the children and she's looking forward to their contribution.

Broadus requests the use of two or three permanent pieces from the DMA to use in "Art-O-Gram" and "Class Acts" an art education newspaper series in the Fort Worth Star Telegram. The articles are designed for children to give them something more than just an art project but to talk about and view work critically and develop better communication skills.

In reference to a letter Dorothy had sent to Kathy Talley-Jones of the Getty Center, about some concerns Andrews had after attending a Texas Arts Education Association conference. In particular, some concerns about what Dr. Fox has said during the conference which Reynolds finds disturbing, as many other faculty had not reported it from that perspective. The rest of the letter goes into details about North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, and the good they have been doing for Texas institutes and higher arts education.

McCarter writes that from the point of view of NTIEVA, there has been new energy and focus from Woolery's good words from their panel, TASA/TASB. It gave NTIEVA them insight into the leadership Woolery is providing. McCarter also writes that they appreciate Dr. Skinner and Bill Cormack, who have proven themselves as able spokespersons for the distract during their recent meeting at the Dallas Museum between DMA Education Committee and members of the Board of the Marcus Foundation. McCarter ends the letter by stating that NTIEVA is in the early stages of planning for activities during the summer of 1995 and that the involvement of the Dallas teachers makes them look forward to another successful Institute. Requesting information about possibly locations which to film the Getty Center's mission / programs and to show the visitors the film which will orients the Center's goals. The film will be fifteen minutes long, comprised of three segments that will highlight the important parts of their programs. Enclosed in the letter are details about the three segments and the ideas behind how the filming should take place. Photocopies of evaluations and comments for the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution: An Introduction to Latino Art and Culture, dated June 26 - 28, 1996. The evaluations are rating the quality of the workshop by answering the questions of material, information, topics and other objectives that the exhibit provided. In a letter to Carol Wyrick, July 15, 1996, Bill McCarter apologies for withholding the evaluations but NTIEVA wanted to record the general comments made about the Institute. Some of the comments read as written, "I enjoyed the workshop and learned a lot." "Those of us who teach the younger students found the drawing studies to be of little relevance to the level of production appreciated [by] our students." Other comments continue with the enthusiasm of the quality of materials and the presentations, as well as offer suggestions or provide concerns about the related subject.

In regards to the spring of 1995 progress report Davis and McCarter had sent Rosenberg about their activities and achievements for NTIEVA. Rosenberg is interested to hear that Bill McCarter plans to retires from NTIEVA after the summer of 1997 and commends both of them for their leadership they have brought to NTIEVA. Rosenberg requests that they address certain issues in their next report due October 1, 1995 or to send them separately so that she may review them.

The letter is in regards to the successful implementation of DBAE, discipline-based arts education in NTIEVA's consortium members. Several of the districts are getting together for sharing ideas and extended planning for a number of activities for the 1990 and 1991 Summer Institute. McCarter and Cason have included in the letter, registration forms for activities through the month of October that they believe are extremely worthwhile.

Roberts is writing to confirm Fort Worth ISD's commitment to the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. Their Site Coordinator, Beverly Fletcher, will contribute 15% of her time during the 1992 calendar year to activities related to staff development.
