Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter and Jack Davis, co-directors of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Marvin E. Edwards, Superintendent of Dallas ISD. Reviewing how successful the 1991 Summer Institute was and how the implementation of the discipline-based art education is off to a good start. McCarter and Davis continue to say that they are already beginning preparations for the 1992 Summer Institute as they have a report due to the Getty Center for Education in the Arts mid-October to discuss a preliminary plan and budget. Consequently they need materials from Edwards by October 15, 1991 in order to insure continuation of a third year funding from the Getty Center. Included in the letter is a list of materials needed from Edwards, and finalizing points about how the Summer Institute will work.

Discussing the future relationship with Pilot Point. Having talked with Sylvia Russel, McCarter has come to an understanding that there are existing problems that threaten the continuation of Pilot Point as a consortium of NTIEVA, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. The rapid growth of the district has left little time for Russel to continue her duties within the institute. McCarter asks Grisby if there is any one else in the district who can take over to Russel and her active duties.

In regards to the success of the 1991 summer institute and its implementation for the school year being off to a good start. The six teams of teachers from HEB elementary schools worked hard during the two weeks and received many hours of intensive preparation in the DBAE program. In order for the Getty Institute to continue their grant to NTIEVA, McCarter and Davis write that they need materials from Caloss that they've written out in details through the rest of the letter. Enclosed with the letter, is a draft of a letter McCarter and Davis need from Caloss, to modify to suit his style.

However, in CCISD's proposals they use "Getty Center for the Visual Arts" as part of the description in partnership which is not accurate as the partnership is between NTIEVA and CCISD. They much correct their mistake as NTIEVA does not wish to get into hot water with the Getty over similar mistakes.

Foreign art educators visit NT

A newspaper clipping, published by The North Texas Daily, features an article with the headline, "Foreign art educators visit NT." Swedish art educators from the Modern Museum in Stockholm visited North Texas to learn about reforming education in and through the arts. The Swedish educators visited the offices of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts to learning about their program, Transforming Education through the Arts Challenge. Project Coordinator, Pam Stephens said that the challenge is a five-year $15 million effort at NT.
