Consequently they need materials from Edwards by October 15, 1991 in order to insure continuation of a third year funding from the Getty Center. Discussing the future relationship with Pilot Point. Having talked with Sylvia Russel, McCarter has come to an understanding that there are existing problems that threaten the continuation of Pilot Point as a consortium of NTIEVA, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. The rapid growth of the district has left little time for Russel to continue her duties within the institute. McCarter asks Grisby if there is any one else in the district who can take over to Russel and her active duties.

In regards to the success of the 1991 summer institute and its implementation for the school year being off to a good start. The six teams of teachers from HEB elementary schools worked hard during the two weeks and received many hours of intensive preparation in the DBAE program. In order for the Getty Institute to continue their grant to NTIEVA, McCarter and Davis write that they need materials from Caloss that they've written out in details through the rest of the letter. Enclosed with the letter, is a draft of a letter McCarter and Davis need from Caloss, to modify to suit his style.

Tandy thanks McCarter for the lunch tour and education as to what is happening at the University of North Texas. Tandy writes that he was impressed with the pursuit of the relationship of art to learning in elementary education, and assures McCarter that he will use his influence to enhance the opportunity to add Dallas into the institute.

In regards to the panel discussion, "Administrators as Leaders in the Arts," which has been scheduled for October 1, 1994 in the Dallas Convention Center. The panel discussion will focus on the significance of the arts in the schools, emphasizing that the arts are part of the Goal 2000, the national standards and state mandated elements. As panel members it is important they address how important the art education and the affects North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts will have on school districts. McCarter and Davis have enclosed a schedule for the panel, that the recipients can modify or supply suggestions. Schedule not present with letter.

In regards to having read over the proposal CCISD wants to make to the Texas Commission of the Arts and have sent back letters of support to help weigh the scales in CCISD's favor. However, in CCISD's proposals they use "Getty Center for the Visual Arts" as part of the description in partnership which is not accurate as the partnership is between NTIEVA and CCISD. They much correct their mistake as NTIEVA does not wish to get into hot water with the Getty over similar mistakes.

A memo from Sheila Brown and Margaret Proskovec, to Prairie Visions Superintendents and Contact Persons. The memo is in regards to the Nebraska schools being offered an opportunity to participate in a 23 state partnership of educators and public broadcasters that provides quality interactive education via satellite. The memo also announces a two teleworkshop that will be broadcast nationally.

Davis hopes that a $4.3 million dollar grant will show public schools that an education based on the arts increases student achievements in all fields. Davis is also co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, an art education consortium, whose belief is that visual image is a powerful learning tool.

Bruce writes that he will assist the institutes to take the appropriate steps towards writing and then submitting their proposals to such institutes when the time requires. The letter is in regards to prior correspondence where Davis requested from the regional institute directors to send him issues for discussion at the next meeting.

The memo is in regrads to prior correspondence on the Regional institute directors' meeting taking place on January 23, 1991 in Los Angeles. Rosenberg writes that the Center will cover the cost of their lodging for five nights and to make reservations as soon as possible.

Swedish art educators from the Modern Museum in Stockholm visited North Texas to learn about reforming education in and through the arts. The Swedish educators visited the offices of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts to learning about their program, Transforming Education through the Arts Challenge. Project Coordinator, Pam Stephens said that the challenge is a five-year $15 million effort at NT.

A newspaper clipping featuring an article written by Renee Schafer about her son, Evan coming home from school enthusiastic about something he learned in music class. It got Schafer thinking about how her son's school district has considered down-sizing their arts department due to funding being low, and most administrators believe art and music is fluff. Schafer challenges this notion by stating that her sons music exercise helped him understand fractions.
