A letter from John Paul Batiste, Executive Director for Texas Commission on the Arts, to Mark Elder, Assistant Vice President of Research at the University of North Texas, informing Elder that his grant application for the North Texas Institute for Educators in Visual Arts (NTIEVA) has been accepted for the amount of $4,422. Batiste notes that since Elder's funding has been lower than he has requested, a revised project budget is needed within 10 days.

In regards to the success of the 1991 summer institute in the implementation of DBAE, discipline-based art education and that the teachers and administrators from Plano worked very hard for the two weeks. NTIEVA has already begun to plan for the 1992 summer institute and need some materials from the district by October 15, in order to insure the continuation of funding from the Getty Center. Incidentally the second page of the letter is to Ronald Caloss, from September 20, 1991. The second page finishes the letter from the first.

Reviewing how successful the 1991 Summer Institute was and how the implementation of the discipline-based art education is off to a good start. McCarter and Davis continue to say that they are already beginning preparations for the 1992 Summer Institute as they have a report due to the Getty Center for Education in the Arts mid-October to discuss a preliminary plan and budget. Consequently they need materials from Edwards by October 15, 1991 in order to insure continuation of a third year funding from the Getty Center. Included in the letter is a list of materials needed from Edwards, and finalizing points about how the Summer Institute will work.

In order for the Getty Institute to continue their grant to NTIEVA, McCarter and Davis write that they need materials from Caloss that they've written out in details through the rest of the letter. Enclosed with the letter, is a draft of a letter McCarter and Davis need from Caloss, to modify to suit his style.

The memo is in regards to the Nebraska schools being offered an opportunity to participate in a 23 state partnership of educators and public broadcasters that provides quality interactive education via satellite. The memo also announces a two teleworkshop that will be broadcast nationally.

Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter and Nancy Cason, NTIEVA to Beverly Fletcher, Art Supervisor, Fort Worth ISD., in regards to how well the school year has gotten off to, and despite the budgetary limitations, teachers and art specialists have already reported success and enthusiasm working together and the improvement of the children. McCarter and Cason would like to remind Fletcher of upcoming "renewal" sessions for the 1990 and 1991 Institute participants and other art specialists belong to the district. The first event will be held October 19th, at the UNT Art Department to discuss practical ideas on talking with kids about art and ways of introducing art history to children, however, they will be unable to pay the teachers to attend these renewal sessions but a lunch will be provided.

Appreciating the concern shown by the DISD's administration and the school board about preserving the visual arts program in Dallas Public Schools. McCarter and Cason write that Dallas is one of six consortium districts participating in the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, NTIEVA, program. NTIEVA provides intensive summer institute training in discipline-based art education for elementary principals, art specialists, classroom teachers, and museum educators, while also assisting the implementation of integrative art programs during the school year. Public schools such as, T.D. Marshall, Colonial Learning Center, Lida Hooe, Maple Lawn and Sidney Lanier have sent teams to the summer institute program, along with other schools in attendance as well. McCarter and Cason finish the letter with how successful their institute is, writing that they've served a total of twenty elementary schools, impacting 500 teachers and 12,500 students, and that they're excited about their partnership with Dallas.

A letter from Luis Peon-Casanova, Producer / Director at Nebraska ETV Network, to Jack Davis, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. The letter is in regards to the work that the everyone has put into for the teleconference collaboration. Per a letter of agreement the University of Nebraska Television (NETV) will reimburse the Institute for Visual Arts a fix amount of two-thousand dollars for the uplinks, facilities and personnel for rehearsal and broadcast.

The letter is in regards to prior correspondence between Mack and Jack Davis, where Mack has requested an article and photographs for the IVAE project information bulletin. Reynolds continues in her letter about the articles and materials she's enclosing to send to Mack. Present with Reynolds letter to Mack, is the letter from Mack to Jack Davis with the request for the article and photographers by September 15th. The primary focus of the teleconference is to discuss art and art education in the public school curriculum. Hand-written note at the bottom reads, "Note change in title. A memo from Julie Abel, program associate at the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, to the Regional Institute Directors. The memo is in regards to updating the Center's survey they had asked the Directors to complete in the Summer of 1991 for the last year's Advisory Committee Notebook. In the memo, Abel has attached a chart showing the state-wide impact of the Regional Institutes that was complied form the information. Abel requests updated figures from 1992 by September 24, 1992.
