The clipping shows illustrations of the building and floor plan of the Walton Arts Center, a performing arts center located in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Walton Arts Center is named after the Walton family, because of funds donated to complete construction, and its grand opening concert was performed by composer and musician, Steven Allen. These pages belonged to the desk of Jack Davis, William McCarter, as they researched foundations to support their education reform program.

Student's sought for new art grant

A grant for $600,000 from the Edward and Betty Marcus Foundation will provide stipends for fifteen NT graduate students studying art education during the next three years. The grant will continue paying for the NT's Marcus Fellows Program until August 2001. The purpose of the fellowship is to allow graduate students to develop innovative ways to teach art and art appreciation.

Thinking like an Artist

An article featured in Arts & Activities newsletter, by Pamela Geiger Stephens and Michelle Mattoon. Pamela Geieger Stephens is a teaching fellow and graduate research assistant at the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, University of North Texas, and Michelle Mattoon is a pre-service art specialist at the University of North Texas. Their article, "Thinking like an Artist," is about a puzzle activity for school children to help develop their own original ideas and encourages careful observation of a work of art. Stephens and Mattoon have developed this puzzle activity to allow students to act like an art critic and aesthetician as they describe an image.
