Radford acknowledges his receipt of Carswell's letter and check, he commiserates having to adapt to dentures and expresses his appreciation for the "nice things" Carswell said about his Dad [J. M. Radford]. He reminisces about February 1933 when they both "had quite a time to try to keep telegrams, etc. out of his hands" to keep the party a surprise. [A party given on February 25, 1933 to celebrate "50 years of building Abilene" honoring J. M. Radford.]

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Secretary-Manager, Chamber of Commerce, Abilene, Texas from Morris Sheppard, United States Senate, dated August 20, 1938. Sheppard acknowledges his receipt of the "communication" from Carswell and expresses his pleasure in having visited with Carswell while he was in Washington. He acknowledges that Carswell is leaving the Chamber of Commerce on September 1 wishing him success and adds, in a handwritten postscript, that he prizes Carswell's friendship more than he can express.

A letter written to Senator Tom Connally, United States Senate, from T. N. Carswell, dated April 20, 1946. Carswell informs Connally that he notes what the House has done to OPA and that he doubts the wisdom of destroying OPA at this time. He expresses his view of the failures of OPA but also his fear of the consequences on the economy if OPA is destroyed and requests that Connally use his influence to strengthen rather than destroy it.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Pat Bullock, The Senate of The State of Texas, Austin, dated March 20, 1945. Bullock advises that he agrees on all four points mentioned in Carswell's letter dated March 14 and that he has never voted against redistricting. He, too, is for the "open shop", agrees that Texas has too many District Courts and thinks "that a Constitutional Convention should be called to repeal our out-moded and patched-up Constitution".

Carswell makes a request to Russell for thirty-six copies of "Infantry Drill Regulations F. M. 22-5" advising of their need of these books for help with the Home Defense Guard Units they now have under way.

Carswell expresses his appreciation for help in catching a flight advising that Miss McKool was the friendly and charming messenger doing this especial service. He requests they use the check to purchase candy or a rose for McKool noting that long ago, someone said "sell a loaf and buy a rose, for the soul too must be fed".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from R. B. Leach - Finance Co-Chairman, A. Bailey Lewis - Finance Co-Chairman, and Morgan Jones, Jr. - Treasurer, dated August 20, 1954. Leach expresses appreciation on behalf of Governor Shivers and the Taylor County Shivers for Governor Club for the contribution made by Carswell to Governor Shiver's run-off campaign to be held on August 28th. He notes the national importance of this election as shown by the reporter and photographer from Life magazine being assigned to Shivers during his "swing through Central West Texas" and emphasizes the importance of urging all supporters of Shivers to vote absentee or in person on August 28.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Lyndon B. Johnson, United States Senate, Office of the Democratic Leader, dated July 20, 1953. Johnson acknowledges the letter from Carswell dated July 16th urging Johnson to support the request for increased postal rates. Johnson advises of the decision made by Acting Senate Majority Leader Knowland for no final action this year on the request for increases in mail rates but expresses his appreciation for the views and recommendations from Carswell in the matter, that what he says "will be given every consideration" if and when the request reaches the Senate floor.

Burleson acknowledges the note from Carswell regarding proposals to increase mail rates. He advises that the Postmaster General made an excellent case for increasing rates to reduce the deficit, but the entire Department needs to be reorganized on a more businesslike basis.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Jewel McLeod (Mrs. James O. McLeod), Dallas 11, Texas, dated May 20, 1952. McLeod explains the suggestion she had made about Carswell securing a Civil Service connection in Dallas as selfish on her part and wanting again to work for her "Old Boss", since some of her fondest memories were in connection with her work with Carswell. McLeod describes her job and expresses her wish for the best for him and Mrs. Carswell, that Orville and the boys join in extending best regards.

Confirmation from Stevenson that the suggestions contained in the recent letter from Carswell have been very helpful and the advisement of how those suggestions have been implemented. He requests that Carswell keep him informed as to his "situation" in that section of the State.
