Carswell, Parramore Post No. 57, American Legion, Abilene, Texas, from Charles Schwarz, Director of Public Relations, Treasury Department, Washington, dated December 11, 1941. Schwarz expresses for Secretary Morgenthau his appreciation for the letter asking for an expression on Americanism and advises that he is sending a copy of an address given in 1938 by the Secretary. Enclosure includes: THE ROAD AHEAD. An address by Henry Morgenthau, Jr., Secretary of the Treasury dated June 16, 1938. "―to be delivered at the Commencement Exercises of Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa., June 16, 1938―"

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Chairman, Committee on Americanism, Parramore Post No. 57, American Legion, Abilene, Texas, from Le Roy V. Greene, Assistant Secretary to the Governor, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, dated December 8, 1941. Greene acknowledges receipt of the letter from Carswell advising that he is bringing it to the attention of the Governor and "meanwhile" sends a copy of a quotation by the Governor regarding Americanism. The enclosure is a political statement from Arthur H. James, The Governor, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Governor's Office, Harrisburg dated December 8, 1941, in which James defines Americanism.

[Form letter from T. N. Carswell to E. Tracy Sweet - December 4, 1941]

A letter addressed to Mr. E. Tracy Sweet, Editor, Scrantonian, Scranton, Pennsylvania, from T. N. Carswell, For the Committee on Americanism, American Legion, dated December 4, 1941. The letter contains a promotion of a "What is Americanism?" campaign. The campaign is defined as "seeking more light in the form of a contribution", the contribution being the answer to the question, "What is Americanism?". The answer will then be used "to help stimulate an AMERICANISM REVIVAL comparable in results to the periods of the Revolution, the Making of the Constitution, and the Civil War" stressing that the country's destiny depends on these answers. E. Tracy Sweet defines Americanism in a reply typewritten near the bottom of page before the complimentary close.
