Perry, District Governor of Texas.

Wingfield defends Col. Perry explaining that the Waco meeting at which Col. Perry was not present resulted in things done there that he and his committee did not agree to. He expresses his hope to see Carswell at the Abilene Club, the Paris Convention and then at Omaha in June.

A Western Union telegram sent to Mrs. Worth H. Clark, Ocala, Florida, from Norwood & Virginia, dated December 18, 1940. Carswell expresses their grief regarding the death of Worth hoping that his brother Allen was already there. They would not be able to go but to phone or wire anything she needed and was praying that God bless, comfort and keep close to her.

A letter written to Mr. Allen Wight, Attorney, Dallas, Texas, from T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, dated January 18, 1941. Carswell advises Wight that the purpose for arranging the meeting is to acquaint the citizenship of this section with the need for defense and of the necessity for helping those now arrayed against the Axis powers.

The statement records this information: "Many years ago the family name was spelled Caswell." The parents of T. N. Carswell are listed as Carswell, Andrew Jackson (Father) and Smith, Martha (Mother).

Harris advises Maisel of his agreement to serve on the Legion Memorial Highway Committee for which he was recommended by Tommy N. Carswell.

A letter written to Mr. Tom Carswell, Fifth Division Abilene, Texas, from J. M. Willson, Floydada, Texas, dated June 18, 1943. Willson advises of his not being able to make the Division meeting but that he will make the Fort Worth meeting then on to Omaha Nebraska. He emphasizes the importance of Carswell to endorse George Berry and Sam Forman at the Division meeting.

A letter addressed to The Chairman, Mitchell County Local Board No. 1, Colorado City, Texas from L. M. Fellbaum, Major, Q. M. C., Policy Supervisor dated February 18, 1944. Fellbaum advises that Mr. Thomas N. Carswell has been instructed to assist the board members or clerks in the processing of registrants due to the increase in physical examinations and induction calls, and due also to their recent change in clerks explaining that his assistance will greatly aid the local board in their work.

A letter written to Dean R. P. Sibley, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York from T. N. Carswell, dated July 18, 1944. Carswell acknowledges his receipt of Sibley's letter addressed to Peggy A. Carswell having placed her on probation. He advises of the fact that Peggy, having entered Cornell as a Junior, could not therefore have fulfilled any requirements by the end of the sophomore year and because she is now a senior applying probation, literally, is impossible. He requests that his daughter's probation status be reconsidered advising of the timing of this action as unnecessarily disturbing and that he must depend on Sibley to explore the matter thoroughly and to reply.

Carswell states his opinion of Mr. Pauley advising that he does not believe Pauley possesses the moral integrity required to qualify for responsible governmental service requesting, therefore, that Connally oppose his confirmation as Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Carswell also offers insight regarding world peace; "In the matter of dealing with Russia it appears to me we are pursuing a course of appeasement and compromise that will as surely end in disaster as did a comparable policy in dealing with our recent enemies―will result in our subservience―Civil War came in spit of all Clay's compromises."

A letter written to Senator W. Lee O'Daniel, U. S. Senate, Washington, D. C., from T. N. Carswell, dated February 18, 1946. Carswell requests that O'Daniel vote against the confirmation of Mr. Pauley as Assistant Secretary of the Navy.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from R. H. Johnson, R. H. Johnson & Co. Investment Securities, New York 5, N. Y., dated October 18, 1946. Johnson advises of a correction to a statement in a previous letter, "If the OPA is thrown overboard except for rents it will have a very fine effect". Handwritten note by T. N. Carswell advises Johnson to use his judgement as to sales and purchases as always.

Sandefer advises of his efforts in raising additional funds from the Oil Industry for Hunter Hall at Hardin-Simmons University and advises of the need to discuss with Carswell the program and plaque for Hunter Hall.
