The hygroscopicity of moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) with a gradient fiber structure
This article studies the hygroscopicity of moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) with a gradient fiber structure assessed by a dynamic vapor sorption (DVS) apparatus and fitted with a Haillwood–Horrobin (H–H) model. The effects of the chemical composition, gradient fiber structure, and mesopore structure of the bamboo were also investigated. The results demonstrate that the hygroscopicity of bamboo gradually increases from the outer to the inner layer along the thickness of the culm wall, which is related to the gradient distribution of the fibers. The structure–function relationships between the chemical composition, multi-scale structure, and hygroscopicity identified in this study provide a theoretical basis for bamboo drying and storage technology, as well as the processing and application of bamboo fiber-based composites.

Effect of amorphous cellulose on the deformation behavior of cellulose composites: molecular dynamics simulation
This article is a study aimed at predicting and enhancing the properties of the blend, as well as exploring the mechanism, of a polylactic acid (PLA)/amorphous cellulose composite system through molecular characterization. The static properties of the amorphous cellulose/PLA blend model and the mechanical response of the material under uniaxial tension were studied by molecular dynamics simulation to establish the structure–property relationship.

Establishing a Journey of Inclusion, Identity and Intersectionality through Guided Pathways to Enhance Latinx Success in Engineering and Computer Science
Data management plan for the grant, "Establishing a Journey of Inclusion, Identity and Intersectionality through Guided Pathways to Enhance Latinx Success in Engineering and Computer Science." This project will bring together the University of North Texas (UNT) and North Central Texas College (NCTC) to decrease the time to graduation for transfer students in engineering and computer science (ECS) and better meet the needs of Latinx students. Three research questions will guide the project efforts. 1) How do Latinx students navigate the engineering fields at an HSI and how do their opportunities and experiences at an HSI relate to their outcomes? 2) How do faculty and staff incorporate Latinx students’ collective cultural wealth into their curricular and co-curricular programs? 3) How do the community college experiences of Latinx students inform their pathways through engineering and computer science programs at an HSI? The project will disseminate a collection of best practices arising from their collaborative effort that can serve as a model for partnerships between community colleges and universities designed to increase representation of the Latinx community in the engineering and computer science workforce.

Branching of Titanium Nanorods
This article reports that Ti nanorod branching occurs at a low homologous temperature of 0.28 based on physical vapor deposition and characterizations using electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The insight into conditions for branching, together with the determination of the morphology and crystal orientation of the branches, lay the foundation for further studies of branching mechanisms and driving force.

Multi-Modal Surface Acoustic Wave Sensing System for Pressure and Temperature monitoring of Spent Fuel Canisters
Data management plan for research material for the grant "Multi-modal Surface Acoustic Wave Sensing System for Pressure and Temperature monitoring of Spent Fuel Canisters." This project is a collaboration of University of North Texas, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and National Energy Technology Laboratory to develop a multi-modal wireless passive SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) sensor array, which are deployed on the outside surface of stainless steel canisters used for nuclear waste, to monitor the strain of the canister and thus determine the inside pressure to ensure safety and security. In addition, the SAW strain sensor could also measure the surface temperature and potentially monitor helium gas leaks.

The Influence of Aortic Valve Hemodynamics and LVAD on bio-transport processes in Calcific Aortic Valve Disease
Data management plan for the grant "The Influence of Aortic Valve Hemodynamics and LVAD on bio-transport processes in Calcific Aortic Valve Disease." One of the most common valvular heart diseases is the development of calcific aortic valve (CAV). The goal of this research is to understand the transport and near-wall accumulation of Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL), which play a key role in the CAV development, with and without altered transvalvular pressure gradient due to LVADs. This will be achieved by developing the first computational model of biochemical transport near the highly deforming aortic valve, in which the hemodynamics and LDL mass transport are coupled with the biomechanical response of the valve, using a FSI framework formed around an innovative supreme immersed boundary (SIB) method.
