This article explores a proposed deep-learning-based algorithm called DeepFilter for improving peptide identifications from a collection of tandem mass spectra. The authors find that DeepFilter is believed to generalize properly to new, previously unseen peptide-spectrum-matches and can be readily applied in peptide identification from metaproteomics data.

This article focuses on citation recommendation in the related studies section by applying the term function of a citation context, potentially improving the efficiency of writing a literature review. The citation recommendation strategy can be helpful for valuable citation discovery, semantic scientific retrieval, and automatic literature review generation.

This presentation explores the variation in interlinear-glossed text (IGT) in 5 closely related South-Central Tibeto-Burman languages with verb stem alternation, reduplicated adverbial modifiers, and pre-verbal directionals. While IGT is a rich representation of language, IGT for even closely related languages can look markedly different due to individual linguists’ divergent analyses. In comparing the discrepancies between representations of such features, we gain insight into the underlying analytic thinking of the annotator to reexamine and improve analyses.

This article is a study aimed at predicting and enhancing the properties of the blend, as well as exploring the mechanism, of a polylactic acid (PLA)/amorphous cellulose composite system through molecular characterization. The static properties of the amorphous cellulose/PLA blend model and the mechanical response of the material under uniaxial tension were studied by molecular dynamics simulation to establish the structure–property relationship.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Dewey A. Holden. Holden joined the Navy Coast Guard on December 15, 1941. He was stationed in Mobile, Alabama and served aboard the HMS Larkspur (K82). In 1942, he was assigned to bosun mate training at Manhattan Beach, New York. Later, Holden was assigned to Picket Boat #3836 in New Orleans, LA. He transported bar pilots and ship supplies from the Gulf of Mexico up through the Mississippi River to stations located in Southwest Pass and South Pass. He speaks of the activity and threat of German submarines in this area during late 1942. He continued this service throughout the war, and was discharged on October 26, 1945.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Heinz Bachman. Bachman was born in Germany in 1921 and immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1924. Upon graduating from high school in 1939, he joined the Army Air Corps and underwent basic training in Hawaii. Bachman trained as an auto mechanic and was assigned to Hickam Airfield, Hawaii. He tells of his experiences during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Later, he was selected for flight training and recalls the disappointment he felt when he washed out of the program. In 1945 he was sent to England and was as a member of the United States Strategic Bombing Survey teams to serve as an interpreter.

This work reports findings that shed light on the complex ion-exchange mechanisms during glass hydration and enables more detailed understanding of the corrosion and glass-water interactions of silicate glasses which has the potential to impact both science and technology.

Article studying high light absorption in two devices: a stack of Au-pattern/insulator/Au-film and a stack of Au-pattern/weakly-absorbing-material/Au-film where the Au-pattern was structured in graded photonic super-crystal. Multiple-band absorption, including one near 1500 nm, in a stack of Au-pattern/spacer/Au-film was observed.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Dean Caswell. Caswell volunteered for the Marine Corps two weeks prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. He eventually went to flight training before being assigned aboard USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) from which he flew Corsairs. Caswell made over 100 combat flights from Bunker Hill, eventually becoming an ace with Marine Fighter Squadron 221 (VMF-221). He shares on anecdote about getting seven enemy planes in one mission. He also shares anecdotes from throughout his long career in the Marine Corps.

Article conducting an intensive study on the problems of low recognition efficiency and noise in the overlapping structure of protein functional modules, based on topological characteristics of PPI network. Developing a protein function module recognition method ECTG based on Topological Features and Gene expression data for Protein Complex Identification. The experimental results show that the ECTG algorithm can detect protein functional modules better.
