This article reports on a four-year study done at the University of North Texas to compare variables of student success (GPA, pass or fail status in course, and retention) in students that attended library instruction sessions and students who did not. It finds a positive correlation between attending library instruction and student success.

This article creates a microkinetic assay for human and zebrafish plasmas using 1 μl plasma under conditions similar to prothrombin time (PT) and partial thromboplastin time (PTTs). Article on the efforts of the University of North Texas Special Collections to create exhibits featuring LGBTQ history in Dallas, Texas. From 2017 to 2019 archivists and librarians at the University of North Texas Special Collections have worked with community members and city officials to create exhibits featuring archival materials from the LGBTQ Archive. There have been several obstacles to presenting accurate historical interpretation of Dallas LGBTQ community history, including lack of sufficient archival documentation, and differences between archival sources and community members’ personal experiences. Grappling with these challenges has allowed UNT Special Collections archivists and librarians to engage community members in a personal, meaningful discussion, and ultimately have led to both successful exhibits as well as strengthened relationships to LGBTQ community members.

This article developed a modified, rapid higher throughput thioacidolysis method to analyze both lignin monomeric composition and tricin content in the lignin polymer. The results demonstrate that the modified method can be used for rapid, high-throughput, and reliable lignin composition and tricin content analyses for screening transgenic plants for cell wall modifications or in large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

Collaborating on scholarship has the potential to provide many advantages, including benefiting from others’ expertise, reinforcing accountability, and providing motivation. However, working with others is tricky—consider compatible work habits, receptivity to criticism, and commitment to fulfill responsibilities. Decisions to be made include where to publish, in what order authors’ names will appear, and how the manuscripts will be written. Who will coordinate? Who will write what? Who will revise? Also, consider how to address problems—missed deadlines, less-than-stellar quality, how to say “no” in the future, and more. This version is the authors' manuscript.

Crucial events are interpreted as short time intervals of turbulence, and the time distance between two consecutive crucial events is a waiting time distribution density with an inverse power law (IPL) index µ, with µ < 3 generating non-stationary behavior.

Authors of the article describe how autoignition delay times of ammonia/dimethyl ether (NH3/DME) mixtures were measured in a rapid compression machine with DME fractions of 0, 2 and 5 and 100% in the fuel. Analysis of the mechanism indicates that this 'early DME oxidation' generates reactive species that initiate the oxidation of ammonia, which in turn begins heat release that raises the temperature and accelerates the oxidation process towards ignition. Article exploring friction stir alloying (FSA) to tune the microstructure and a composition of a TWIP high-entropy alloy by adding Ti, and thus activating site-specific deformation mechanisms that occur concomitantly in a single alloy. This approach presents a novel microstructural architecture to design alloys, an approach that combines and optimizes local compositions such that multiple deformation mechanisms can be activated to enhance engineering properties.

This article compares two simulation-driven approaches: Bayesian unknown change-point model (BUCP) and simulation modeling analysis (SMA) for three real datasets that exhibit “clear” immediacy, “unclear” immediacy, and delayed effects. This database was developed as one of the main objectives of two Chilean-funded research projects addressing understanding the effects of climate change on sub-Antarctic and Antarctic insects.

This article presents geomorphic analysis of Xiadian buried fault in eastern Beijing plain (China), based on the analysis of a Satellite Pour l’Observation de la Terre (SPOT-5) image, a high-resolution digital elevation model (DEM) derived from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system, SRTM DEM and field investigation. Results can provide valuable insight into geomorphic analysis of buried and semi-buried active faults in plain areas with increasingly frequent human activities.
