The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Robert Q. Landis. Landis joined the Navy around April of 1944. He served as a quartermaster aboard USS Blue Ridge (AGC-2). They traveled to New Guinea, and he assisted the ship’s captain in undercover scouting work that other crew members completed aboard LSTs and LCTs. They also traveled to Leyte in the Philippine Islands. Around late 1944, early 1945, Landis transferred to USS Henry T. Allen (APA-15). They were located in Manila Bay when the war ended, then they traveled to Japan to assist with occupation duties. They returned to the US in December and Landis received his discharge.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Francis Kellems. Kellems joined the Navy in September 1943. After boot camp, he was assigned to USS Hubbard (DE-211). He served as a baker aboard the ship and recalls antisubmarine partols in the Atlantic.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Dale Perry. Perry joined the Navy at seventeen in August, 1943 before finishing high school. After basic training, he went to various schools to learn about torpedo operations before going to motor torpedo boat school in Rhode Island. He shipped to the Mediterranean Sea area and was assigned to PT-309. He shares several anectdotes about his time aboard the vessel. In 2020, Perry visiteed the museum and was allowed to go aboard his old boat one more time, PT-309.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Archie Kellems. Kellems joioned the navy in December 1941 after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After some training and being shipped to Hawaii, Kellems contracted the measels and was hospitalized for a while. When he was released, he was assigned to USS O'Brien (DD-415). He was aboard the O'Brien when she was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine along with USS Wasp (CV-7). He was rescued and then later assigned to USS Fullam (DD-474) in March 1943. In march 1945, he joined USS Niagara (APA-87) in time to take some troops to Okinawa. After the war ended, Kellems was discharged in early 1946, but was back i nthe Navy within six months. He made a career of hte Navy.

Dr. Hayslip explains why he dislikes the term “senior moment” and why he is a proponent of learning new skills to improve memory as we age.

Interview with Scott Kiester for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) podcast. In this episode, Susan interviews Scott Kiester, a retired geologist with an M.S. in Environmental Science who is also a certified Texas Master Naturalist and Audubon Master Birder for North Central Texas. He discusses his birding background with Susan and offers helpful birding tips. They then get into a deeper conversation about bird migration patterns. Mr. Kiester also explains how the work of Master Naturalists and Master Birders impacts our environment and communities.

Interview with Dr. John Neal for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) podcast. In this episode, Susan interviews Dr. John Neal, Professor Emeritus of Journalism at Brookhaven College, who teaches communications-related courses for OLLI at UNT. In addition to discussing his academic background, Dr. Neal goes over some highlights of the history of photography, from the ancient camera obscura to the advent of stereoscopy and 3D movies. He also talks with Susan about his knowledge of the development of typography, including the design of certain typefaces and techniques of arranging type to make printed language more legible and appealing.

Dr. Holden speaks with Susan about her background and how she came to conduct extensive research into the counseling implications of near-death experiences, after-death communication, and other transpersonal experiences—those that transcend the usual personal limits of space, time, and/or identity. Dr. Holden shares examples of astonishing transpersonal experiences from her research and discusses the profound life changes reported by those who have had these experiences.
