This roundtable presentation and discussion provides an overview of outreach efforts at the UNT Libraries organized under the Comics Studies@UNT initiative from 2017-2019. It includes a discussion of the purposes and impact of doing outreach and programming using unique collections like comics & graphic novels to engage a diverse array of interdisciplinary and cross-cultural audiences, and to support ongoing research and teaching with these collections.

This presentation discusses how the UNT Libraries approaches collection assessment and its follow-up actions. It covers the nature of collection evaluation in libraries in general and how UNT's assessment strategy that employs a subject-oriented perspective in particular.

Considering the importance of mentoring not only for early career librarians but for librarians throughout their career, this presentation provides insights about the University of North Texas Libraries' mentoring program goals and detail analysis of assessment and evaluation methods.

This presentation was part of a two-day course at the 2019 Force11 Scholarly Communication Institute designed to explore possible uses of open publishing platforms, including Pressbooks, Wordpress, OJS, and Omeka, to teach scholarly communication and publishing concepts, as well as practical skills, in libraries or higher education institutions.

Paper providing background and the entire processed, intermediary data used for network analysis research regarding metadata from the UNT Digital Collections. It includes background and contextual information to reuse the data and provides complete datasets for metadata in six selected collections: the College of Music Recordings, Technical Report Archive and Image Library, the Texas Patents Collection, Texas State Publications, UNT Theses and Dissertations, and the University Photography Collection.

To complement UNT’s limited inclusive-access program, the UNT Libraries has taken the lead on two programs designed to encourage adoption, adaptation, and creation of OER at UNT. The first, OER Summer Grants, provides research funding for faculty who adopt an open textbook, modify an existing one, or create new supplemental material. The second, UNT Open Texts, is a partnership with the UNT Press that provides research funding for faculty who author a new open textbook to be published jointly by the Press and Libraries. These specifics of these programs will be presented.

This article explores the use of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to identify attitudes, social norms, and behavioral control in 92 young adults toward two intentional behaviors related to safe listening habits while listening to their personal listening devices: (1) lowering the intensity of loud music, and (2) shortening the listening duration of loud music. Linear regression findings indicated that the overall TPB models were significant. Positive attitudes toward turning the music down and shortening the durations were significantly associated with intentions to engage in non-risky behavior, more so for the former behavior.

Paper explores the possibility of the capacity of private information retrieval (PIR) from databases coded using maximum distance separable (MDS) codes to be broken through joint encoding and storage of messages.

Study examines factors that affect power corridor classification using LiDAR (light detection and ranging) point clouds, including the class distribution, feature selection, classifier type and neighborhood radius for classification feature extraction.

This article highlights the development of a flexible long-chain starch with a hyper-branched structure (HD), and incorporating it with SM and a crosslinking agent to prepare a novel SM adhesive. Results showed that this adhesive exhibited both excellent water resistance and enhanced toughness. The wet bond strength of plywood fabricated using this adhesive was 354.5% higher than that of SM adhesive.
