This article experimentally shows that Co nanoparticles with a single-domain crystal structure support a plasmon resonance at approximately 280 nm with better quality than gold nanoparticle resonance in the visible. The magnetic nature of these nanoparticles suggests a new type of these plasmons.

Giant spin Hall effect in two-dimensional monochalcogenides

This article, using calculations from first principles, reveals for the first time giant intrinsic spin Hall conductivities (SHC) in these materials. In particular, the article shows that the SHC resonances can be easily tuned by combination of strain and doping and, in some cases, strain can be used to induce semiconductor to metal transition that makes a giant spin Hall effect possible even in absence of doping.

Not only are there emotional components but there are also more technical and procedural responsibilities that may be overlooked. These facilities, technological, and human resources tasks need to be handled sensitively and in a timely manner. Remembering whom to contact, what property needs to be considered, and how to produce final paychecks are just a few of the concerns managers will face in a trying time. This guide aims to serve as a checklist of the basic components and tasks managers will face after the sudden loss of an employee.

Further Analysis on Solubility Measurement and Thermodynamic Modeling of Benzoic Acid in Monosolvents and Binary Mixtures

Article discussing further analyses of the recent report (by Sandeepa et al.) on the solubility of benzoic acid in six monosolvents (i.e. tributyl phosphate, diacetone alcohol, methyl-n-propyl ketone, methyl acetate, amyl acetate, and isooctane) and five binary systems (i.e. ethanol + hexane, isopropyl alcohol + hexane and chloroform + hexane, acetone + hexane, and acetone + water) along with some numerical analyses. The reported calculations have been reanalyzed based on combined nearly ideal binary solvent/Redlich-Kister, the modified Wilson model, general single model, Jouyban–Acree model and Jouyban–Acree–van’t Hoff model. The investigated models provide good estimation of the solubility behavior of benzoic acid in the binary solvent mixtures at various temperatures.

Cataloging for Makerspaces

Although many school libraries include makerspaces, their catalogs do not always provide information about makerspace resources. Cataloging these resources can benefit school library users and staff in several ways. This article argues that how cataloging increases the visibility of the makerspace collection not only by making the items accessible for catalog users, but also facilitating browsing by collocating similar resources.

Evaluation of a Chicken 600K SNP genotyping array in non-model species of grouse

This article tested the cross-species application of the Affymetrix 600K Chicken SNP array in five species of North American prairie grouse (Centrocercus and Tympanuchus genera). This study study provided evidence for successful cross-species application of the chicken SNP array in grouse which diverged ca. 37 mya from the chicken lineage. As far as the authors are concerned, this is the first reported application of a SNP array in non-passerine birds, and it demonstrates the feasibility of using commercial SNP arrays in research on non-model bird species.

This article, fused airborne LiDAR and hyperspectral data were used to extract urban objects in cloud shadows.The experimental results confirm that the proposed method is very effective for urban object extraction in cloud shadows and thus improve urban applications such as urban green land management, land use analysis, and impervious surface assessment.

Influence of ordered L1₂ precipitation on strain-rate dependent mechanical behavior in a eutectic high entropy alloy

This article focuses on Al0.7CoCrFeNi, a lamellar dual-phase (fcc + B2) precipitation-strengthenable eutectic high entropy alloy. The back-stresses from the coherent L12 precipitate were insufficient to cause improvement in twin nucleation, owing to elevated twinning stress under quasi-static testing. However, under dynamic testing high density of twins were observed.

Mechanical property enhancement of self-bonded natural fiber material via controlling cell wall plasticity and structure

This article explores self-bonded natural fiber material (SNFM) as a promising alternative for plastic and wood owing to its abundant raw material resources and low environmental impact. In this study, a high-performance SNFM was developed by the comprehensive treatments for the plasticity and structure of fiber cell walls. The self-bonded mechanism for natural fiber materials was also discussed. The SNFM products showed excellent mechanical performance, which was superior to that of natural wood and plastic.

Adherence to Exercise Programs in Older Adults: Informative Report

This article focuses on filling information gaps regarding adherence to physical activity and exercise in the health care spectrum of older adults (OA) and an overview of the benefits of physical activity for OA. Exercise adherence in OA is a multifactorial problem encompassing many biopsychosocial factors. Factors affecting adherence in the OA include socioeconomic status, education level, living arrangements, health status, pacemakers, physical fitness, and depression. Improving adherence could have a significant impact on longevity, quality of life, and health care costs.

Collusion and Cynicism at the Urban Margins

This article examines the connections between participants in the illicit drug trade and members of state security forces to understand how they impact everyday understandings of the law. The authors used ethnographic fieldwork in a poor, high-crime district in Argentina and information gathered for a court case involving a drug trafficking group active in the same area as the basis for their research.
