From the Archives: The Class of '42
Podcast from the University of North Texas Music Library highlighting materials from their collections. This episode provides biographical information and selected recordings related to four major figures in jazz who attended North Texas State Teachers College in the early 1940s: Herb Ellis, Jimmy Giuffre, Gene Roland, and Harry Babasin. The recordings include selections from on-campus concerts featuring Giuffre and Ellis in the 1950s and 1970s, respectively, and from both artists again in the Jazz Lecture Series in 1983.

Retelling of the story of seven brothers and a sister
This is a retelling of the story about seven brothers and their sister by Muhammad Awaiz (a 32-year old government servant) with Naik Muhammad (a 42-year old male) as the listener. In this story, the brothers get separated from their sister and the latter is searching for them. The sister finds her lost brothers in a forest but the brothers cannot recognise her and each one of them wants to marry her. When the sister lets them know that she was their sister, they drop the idea of marrying her.

Oral History Interview with Julius Spelce, January 15, 2019
The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Julius Spelce. Spelce joined the Navy in May of 1944. On Manus Island, he was assigned to a floating dry dock, USS ABSD-2. Spelce served as Petty Officer Third Class with the deck force, conducting repair work and serving as a cook, where he remained through the end of the war. They provided service repairs to large and small ships. Spelce recalls their vessel being torpedoed in April of 1945. He received his discharge in July of 1946.

This is a traditional story which involves a descriptive riddle about a witty man who needs to take a lion, a goat and a load of leaves across a river. The caveat is that the man cannot take all three in one go. (Note: the narrator inadvertently refers to the goat as a jackal in the beginning). In this recording, the speaker Naik Muhammad (a 42-year old male speaker who works as a driver) is addressing Muhammad Awaiz (a 31-year old male government servant).
