A note on the shelf reads "Basketry; Each of the Tribes that belong to the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde have their own style of basketry. When the Tribes were relocated to the Grande Ronde Reservation, new styles were made and many were sold to the non-native people at community markets in local towns.; Common materials used in basketry include hazel, juncus, cattail, tule, and cedar bark and root." next to it another note reads "Baskets of Western --------". From practical to nostalgic, these plantings unite many different traditions. Any one pioneer garden would not have had such variety. Settlers in those early years were too busy. It was a rare woman who didn't bring at least one favorite flower from home.
