The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Guadalupe R. Davila. Davila was born in Brownsville, Texas on 27 February 1923 and worked at a Civilian Conservation Camp in Stafford, Arizona after graduating from high school. He joined the Navy in October 1943 and went to boot camp in Kingsville, Texas where he describes working on various aircraft in addition to the basic training. Upon completing his basic training, he was transferred to Treasure Island, California where he describes working as a longshoreman loading and unloading ships. He provides other details of his time there, including attending several USO shows. He was discharged in December 1945.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with John Corbisiero. Corbisiero was a freshman on Notre Dame's national champion football team when he was drafted, in 1944. With draft board approval, he joined the Merchant Marine Officer Training School at Alameda, where he was welcomed by officers who would become professional football stars. After running the academy's football team, Corbisiero boarded the SS Clovis Victory (1944), in the spring of 1945. As an engineer cadet, he answered directional commands, maintained the engine log, and operated the captain's gig. At Okinawa, he laid smokescreens, ever alert to the sound of suicide boats. At times, Corbisiero assisted the gun crew in fending off kamikazes. When it seemed safe to go ashore, Corbisiero went on a souvenir-hunting exhibition but soon found himself under enemy fire. With the help of Marines, he made it safely to his ship and soon received orders to return to the academy, at the request of its football coaching staff.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Edmund Russell. Russell joined the Army Air Corps in 1940. He was stationed at Wheeler Field in Hawaii, serving in the mess hall and with a fatigue unit, assisting with ditch digging, garbage hauling and other manual labor. Russell was in Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He later completed Navigator School and served as an A-26 Bombardier/Navigator in India and China, supporting Chinese nationalists. Russell returned to the US in late 1945 and received his discharge.

The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with R.J. Schneider. Schneider was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on 7 March 1922. After completing high school, he enrolled in Xavier University and was in his senior year when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred. He volunteered for the Marine Corps and was permitted to return college. Immediately after graduating he went to Parris Island for boot camp. He then went to Camp Lejeune where he received training in artillery, mortars and machineguns. This was followed by Officer Candidate School from which he graduated in late 1942 as a second lieutenant. Soon after being commissioned he boarded a ship bound for Guadalcanal. He recalls malaria being a problem that hindered the process of ridding the jungle of isolated Japanese. After nine months, he was sent to Peleliu for a short period of time before he was sent to Guam. While on Guam, the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan. He tells of his admiration of President Truman for making such a momentous decision and reminisces of having dinner with Truman later in civilian life. The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Abner Aust. Aust joined the Army Air Forces in September 1941 and completed flight school in April 1943. He was assigned to Venice, Florida, as an instructor, often receiving extra runway duty on account of his mischievous acrobatics. In October 1944, he joined the 506th Fighter Group, 457th Fighter Squadron, as flight commander. Upon familiarizing himself with the P-51, he flew his first missions out of Tinian, moving next to Iwo Jima. While escorting B-29s, he sometimes broke away to lead his group of eight fighters to strafe opportunistically. He is credited with five victories, the last of which occurred on 10 August 1945, distinguishing him as the last fighter ace of World War II. Aust then served in the Air Force and participated in the Vietnam War. Just before his retirement, he worked at Bolling Air Force Base to develop the F-15. After all of his experience in fighters, his favorite plane is the P-40N.
