Student Use of Interactive Whiteboards in an Academic Library Setting (open access)

Student Use of Interactive Whiteboards in an Academic Library Setting

The interactive whiteboard is a learning technology that was introduced in the early 1990s, with the most commonly known product being the SMART Board from SMART Technologies. The main market for interactive whiteboards has been elementary schools, but other markets include secondary schools, higher education, libraries, and businesses. Librarians use the technology to enhance active learning and collaboration in instruction sessions. In January 2011, the University of North Texas Libraries installed two Hitachi StarBoards in the new Collaboration and Learning Commons of the Eagle Commons Library for patrons to use independently. Casual observation suggests that although the StarBoards are popular, the patrons are making minimal use of their interactive functions. The authors propose a study of independent patron use of interactive whiteboards in an academic library setting.

Spatially Periodic Electromagnetic Force Field For Plasma Confinement and Control (open access)

Spatially Periodic Electromagnetic Force Field For Plasma Confinement and Control

In this article, a theoretical understanding is developed of the single-particle reflection properties of a force field, considering the incident charged particles to have a non-drifting, isotropic velocity distribution. Classical trajectory Monte Carlo simulations and analytical modeling are employed. The initiation of an experimental effort to study force fields is described.

UNT Speaks Out On Coming Home

This video recording is of the faculty lecture series UNT Speaks Out on Coming Home. This series features presentations by Dr. Shelley Riggs, Dr. Adriel Boals, and Doctoral Student Cindy Hasio. Dr. Shelley Riggs is a professor of psychology, director of the Family Attachment Lab, and is conducting the Student Veteran Research Project at the University of North Texas (UNT). She discusses the family relationships of veterans after deployment. Dr. Adriel Boals is professor of psychology and has a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to study innovative approaches to understanding and treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other responses to trauma and stress. He discusses what PTSD is and what causes it. Cindy Hasio is a doctoral student in the College of Visual Arts and Design. She discusses methods and findings from a project she participated in related to how veterans narrated their experiences through art.
