[Mountain Beauty: Phlox austromontana]

Phlox austromontana, commonly known as mountain phlox, is a captivating species native to the enchanting landscapes of the southwestern United States and Baja California. Thriving in diverse habitats, from forested mountains to open areas, this mat-forming perennial herb graces the terrain with its delicate presence. The lance-shaped leaves, arranged oppositely in pairs on short stems, add to its allure. Atop each stem, a solitary flower blooms, showcasing its pristine white, soft pink, or serene lavender hue, with five rounded lobes gracefully adorning its frame. The petite, yet exquisite flower, just over a centimeter in length, adds a touch of natural splendor to its surroundings.

The Docs: A Graphic Novel

"The Docs is the story of four Navy Corpsmen deployed to Iraq. While some events in the novel are specific to Operation Iraqi Freedom, this graphic novel is not intended to depict any specific time period or conflict. Rather, it represents a more general view of military life within a combat zone. The intent is to highlight challenges faced by Corpsmen in all wars. The commitment of Corpsmen to meeting these challenges is, like the story itself, timeless" (p. 5).
