The composer has used recordings of nine tones that were produced by a bagpipe that were then transformed and assembled together to create the work. The composer notes that neither the preludium nor the canon is written in genuine folklore style, but rather the only folklore characteristic about the composition is the bagpipe sound.

Rabo-de-Arraia

Recording of Marcus Bittencourt's Rabo-de-Arraia. This work was composed under the theme of "Les Maitres Sonneurs" and shares some folk traditions of Brazil. The idea of this work comes from several of the composer's memories of watching capoeira circles which acts as a martial art, dance, sport, game, and musical event. The ensemble of capoeira musicians in this work was recreated by computer algorithms.

Ritorni

Recording of Pavel Kopecký's Ritorni. This is a work for clarinet and electroacoustics. In order to create the richest unity between the two sounds, the composer formed the electroacoustic base entirely from modified clarinet samples. At the concert performance the sound of the soloist is recorded with a microphone and modified by a sound processor.

Temps Fixé

Recording of Yves Daoust's Temps Fixé. This work was commissioned by Media Arts Networks with the help of the Canada Council for the Arts. This work was inspired by a visit the composer made to a singer friend who now, as an elderly individual, lives in an assisted living facility. The composer was struck by the vision of "a worn man, deteriorated by time". The work represents not death but the idea of time and the unstoppable nature of it through the lens of a singer frozen in time at the height of their career.
