[A Space Between Us]

Photographs of the 2003-2004 artist's book competition winner "A Space Between Us" created by Lisa Tristan Mellot (aka Elizabeth Mellott-Carreon). Each of the twelve volumes of A Space Between Us consists of fired clay covers that enclose handmade paper pages. The pages open as a triptych to reveal contrasting statements about how the artist related with her mother at various ages and how her mother related with the artist's grandmother at the same ages. Beneath the pages are recessed compartments containing found objects. The first image shows one of the books propped open, behind it one of the books is propped up to the front and back cover, a pile of of the same books next to it. Image 2, photo inside the book.
