Les forges de l'invisible

Recording of Elizabeth Anderson's Les forges de l'invisible. This is an octophonic electroacoustic work in two movements that was inspired by the 18th century English poet, William Blake, who included dual imagery in many of his writings. The composer tried to include this concept of duality in her piece. Sample recordings of Thomas Gardner playing his cello were also used as a base for sound exploration.

Globalcom

Cellotronicum

Recording of Michal Talma-Sutt's Cellotronicum. This is a work for cello and computer and was suggested to the composer by the Polish cellist, Andrzej Bauer. It was also commissioned by the "Warsaw Autumn Friends" Foundation with funds from the Ernst von Siemens Musikistiftung. The computer in this work is meant to take the role usually performed by tape and live electronics and is used to transform recorded sounds of the cello.

Rimbarimba

Recording of Jorge Sigal's Rimbarimba. This work is for marimba, Max/Msp, and electroacoustic sounds. This piece was composed as part of the project "Far from silence" with percussionist Robert Esler and was commissioned with funds from the USA-Mexico fund for culture. A central theme in this piece is the integration of rhythmic and spectral materials from the live instrument and the electroacoustic part. The composer wanted this work to be more of a process of exploration than a pre-planned set of musical rules.

Slide

Recording of Panayiotis Kokoras' Slide. This is a work for classical guitar and electronics in which all the sound material comes from the guitar. The composer wanted to explore the unusual characteristics of "the guitar's sound idiom" and produced sounds that are not natural to the instrument. Each second in the piece is very detailed and carefully elaborated while also maintaining the integrity of the sounds as they relate to one another.

Alizés

It was born from the cross between two pieces that the composer had just finished: Giocoso and Bleu Nuit. Ranap-Gaô

This work resulted from the search for the Araponga, a bird whose cry resembles a hammer blow on an anvil. In Brazil, araponga also means "clandestine listening" and this piece swings between the sounds of the two versions of the word.
