WETTABILITY ALTERATION OF POROUS MEDIA TO GAS-WETTING FOR IMPROVING PRODUCTIVITY AND INJECTIVITY IN GAS-LIQUID FLOWS
The authors have performed a number of imbibition tests with the treated and untreated cores in nC{sub 10}, nC{sub 14}, and nC{sub 16} and a natural gas condensate liquid. Imbibition tests for nC{sub 14} and nC{sub 16} were also carried out at elevated temperatures of 100 C and 140 C. An experimental polymer synthesized for the purpose of this project was used in core treatment. Imbibition results are very promising and imply liquid condensate mobility enhancement in the treated core. They also performed flow tests to quantify the increase in well deliverability and to simulate flow under realistic field conditions. In the past we have performed extensive testing of wettability alteration in intermediate gas wetting for polymer FC759 at temperatures of 24 C and 90 C. The results were promising for the purpose of gas well deliverability improvement in gas condensate wells. We used FC759 to lower the surface energy of various rocks. The model fluids nC{sub 10}, and nC{sub 14} were used to represent condensate liquid, and air was used as the gas phase. A new (L-16349) polymer, which has been recently synthesized for the purpose of the project, was used in the work to be presented here. L-16349 …

Wireless Mine Wide Telecommunication Technology, Quarterly Report: July - September 2002
Work is being done to transmit data via our through-the-earth communications system. After evaluating several methods, quadrature phase shift keying was selected as the preferred method. Coding was added to voice communication to increase reliability when two-way radios are being used as input and output devices. For in-mine communication, we are studying to increase the versatility of our system through the addition of Ethernet ports.

Woelter Instrument-Optical Design
Hundreds of target assemblies will be constructed annually for use on NIF or OMEGA in the near future. Currently, we do not have the capability to tomographically characterize the target assemblies at the desired resolution. Hence, we cannot verify if an assembly has been assembled correctly. The Engineering Directorate, through the LDRD program, is currently funding an x-ray instruments that could solve this problem. This instrument is based on a Woelter [1] Type-I design. We will refer to this design as the Woelter instrument in the remainder of the report. Ideally, the Woelter instrument will create images with sub-micrometer resolution. Moreover, the instrument will have a field-of-view large enough to cover an entire target assembly (up to a 2 mm square), which would eliminate the need to take multiple radiographs to get one complete target image. This report describes the optical design of the Woelter instrument.

World Trade Organization: Analysis of China's Commitments to Other Members
A letter report issued by the General Accounting Office with an abstract that begins "China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) on December 11, 2001, represented a major step in the reform efforts of the U.S.'s fourth largest trading partner. When implemented, these reforms will liberalize and modernize China's economy and trading activities, including its industrial, services, and agricultural sectors. However, understanding the implications of China's accession depends on a thorough analysis of the complex terms of China's membership in the WTO. In this initial study, one of several GAO will conduct for the Congress on China-WTO issues, GAO systematically analyzed (1) the scope and types of China's WTO commitments; and (2) the interrelationships among commitments set forth in China's accession agreement. U.S. Trade Representative and other agency officials provided technical and editorial comments on this report, which GAO incorporated as appropriate."
