The word "grisaille" is repeated several times and this composition plays on the notion of "grisaille". The title was recommended to the composer by a Russian musicologist who emphasized the importance of an accent when speaking it.

Recording of George Budd's The Industry of Opposition. The composer describes this work as a study in varying degrees of mediation and the effort to overcome it. The majority of the sound material in this piece was generated by manipulations of the vocal reading.

Recording of Mario Verandi's Je ne suis pas d'ici, je suis de passage. This work was commissioned by Césaré Studio de Creation Reims and premiered at the Passage Subé, Reims, France. This piece consists of recordings of passerby's answering the question "où se trouve le passage subé?" and explores issues such as orientation and disorientation. The composer also wrote this to encourage the citizens of Reims to experience their own city from a different perspective.

Recording of Claude Hermitte's Un peu de surprise et d'amour. This composition is a sonic tribute to the work of painter, Max Ernst. The sound materials used in this work represent different motifs in various paintings by Ernst. The voices used in this piece are 4th graders from Auriol College.

Here are some elements which guided, starting from the text of Hervé Bauer, to the composition of this music: a work in sequence, like flashes of sensations, of meaning, a static aspect, where the domains taken by the senses are both always the same and always different.

Recording of Roald Baudoux's La violence (mix2). This short piece was composed for the Phonurgia Nova 2001 competition the rules of which stated that at least one extract of a radio library provided by the organizers had to be included in the composition. The record that grabbed the composer's attention was one that included words by French writer, Jean-Paul Sartre: "La violence est la seule chose qui reste, quel que soit le système". The composer used this question of violence to inspire the rest of the piece.
