In regards to an invitation from North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, NTIEVA to welcome Gates to the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex. Davis and McCarter describe to Gates, that within the past four years the Dallas Museum of Art has been in their consortium, comprised of five museums and six school districts, for discipline-based art education and implementation. Majority of their funding comes from the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, as the Center represents the comprehensive approach to art education. Davis and McCarter write that while they had a pleasure working with Gail Davitt and Aileen Horan, they are looking forward to their work with Gates.

In regards to Eshom's assistance during the four day seminar. Reynolds writes that they have reserved the days of June 28 - July 1 and July 5 - 8, 1994 for Corpus Christi to discuss future seminars and the ways to best serve the teachers. Reynolds continues that Dr. William Otten is interested in bringing NTIEVA to speak at the Art Museum of South Texas, and that possibly Eshom can reach out to him to coordinate efforts. Enclosed with the letter are information Reynolds believes will be useful for Eshom. Photocopy of a letter from Jack Davis and Bill McCarter, co-directors of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Char Woolery, Acting Superintendent for Dallas ISD. Davis and McCarter start the letter by congratulating Woolery on his new position as Acting Superintendent, giving him well wishes for the extremely important position. However, Davis and McCarter continue stating they are not thrilled with the principals participation in activities during the Summer Institutes. Stating that the leadership within the individual schools need an understanding of discipline-based art education and that they are planning a special day for administrators to construct the curriculum before any implementation can take place. Davis and McCarter have checked every district calendar in their consortium and determined that the administrator day would happen on June 8th, 1993, however, they regret to inform Woolery that Dallas principals will not be able to participate due to June 8th not being workable for them. Davis and McCarter then propose that they'd have another opportunity for the administrators specially for DISD in the fall. The letter ends with the promise of sending an invitation to the administrators of DISD at a later date.

McCarter writes that he has reviewed the draft of the National Arts Standards, paying close attention to the implication for aesthetics in art. Describing his recent trip to Canada, McCarter mentions that many presentations encountered the same problems in identifying common traits found in art. McCarter continues to say he does not see the dilemma in using the word aesthetic as it means various things to different people.

In discussion of the articles in Spirit that focus on activities in the area that Southwest Airline serves and they thought that Clark would be interested in the discipline-based art education, DBAE implementation project. Davis and McCarter go into further details about what North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts does for educators and the districts in the Texas state as well as where their funding and grants come from. Davis and McCarter write about the success their institute is having with the children and how their reading and writing have improved with the visual art program. Attached to the letter for Clark, they've added more information regarding their program and hoping Clark will be able to feature an article about it.

Comerford agreed to consider a graduate student of UNT as an intern to work with him during the spring, to work specially with the computer and interactive technology in the context of art history. The conversation continued to collaborative effort for developing software based on study prints, and would like Gates's insight into the proposed project.
