Fiber, Fabric, Art (open access)

Fiber, Fabric, Art

The problem addressed in this paper was the appropriateness of fiber, especially in the form of fabric, as an art medium. Relevant statements by crafts makers, philosophers, art critics, and artists were investigated along with historical and contemporary art and craft works.

Cellular Origin of Human Lymphotoxin and its Purification (open access)

Cellular Origin of Human Lymphotoxin and its Purification

The ability of various subsets of human mononuclear cells to produce human lymphotoxin (LT) was examined. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were seperated into OKT4+. OKT8+ and Leu-lla+ subpopulations by flow cytometry.

The Relation Between Tissue Eosinophilia and Phospholipase B Activity in Mice Infected with Trichinella Spiralis (open access)

The Relation Between Tissue Eosinophilia and Phospholipase B Activity in Mice Infected with Trichinella Spiralis

The number of tissue eosinophils were counted and phospholiphase B activity was assayed in the intestines of nonsensitized and sensitized and sensitized mice infected with Trichinella spiralis.

Toxicological Assessment Studies of the in Vitro and in Vivo Effects of Methyl 2-Chloro-2-Propenoate [Methyl (α)-Chloroacrylate] (open access)

Toxicological Assessment Studies of the in Vitro and in Vivo Effects of Methyl 2-Chloro-2-Propenoate [Methyl (α)-Chloroacrylate]

the toxic effects resulting from acrylic monomer exposure can pose as occupational risk factors for those involved in the manufacture, distribution, and use of the monomer and as potential risk factors for those accidentally exposed. This study is a toxicological assessment of the in vivo (intact animal) and in vitro (isolated human cell culture) responses to acute methyl (α)-chloroacrylate (MCA) exposure.

Sublethal Effects of Nitrite and Selenate on Two Species of Freshwater Fsh

Physiological and behavioral effects of exposure of fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) and channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) to selenate-selenium (Se) and nitrite were investigated.

Identification of Enzymatic Processing of Protein Bound Mono(ADP- Ribose) (open access)

Identification of Enzymatic Processing of Protein Bound Mono(ADP- Ribose)

Enzymatic activity has been identified in cultured cells which catalyzes the removal of intact mono(ADP-ribose) residues which are bound to protein at arginine. Other activities have been detected which catalyze the removal of ADP-ribose via the sequential removal of AMP and ribose-5-phosphate.

Effect of Ribavirin on Phenotypic Reversion of Mammalian cells Transformed by Temperature-Sensitive Mutants of Avian Sarcoma Virus (open access)

Effect of Ribavirin on Phenotypic Reversion of Mammalian cells Transformed by Temperature-Sensitive Mutants of Avian Sarcoma Virus

The effect of ribavarin (1-β-D-ribofuranosyl-1,2,4-triazole-3-carboxamide), a synthetic nucleoside, on a series of cellular properties which characterize the transformed state was studied using normal rat kidney cells (NRK) and cloned derivatives transformed by a wild type avian sarcoma virus, B77-NRK, and by a temperature-sensitive mutant of the virus, LA31-NRK.

Intradermal and Systemic Response of Immunized Mice to Mycobacterial Glycopeptidolipids

Glycopeptidolipid (GPL) antigens isolated from Mycobacterium intracellulare were used to sensitize BALB/c mice. Primary footpad challenge of mice sensitized with GPL antigens suspended in phosphate buffered saline demonstrated an increased footpad swelling reaction.

Morphology of Azotobacter Vinelandii Grown on Nutrient Agar (open access)

Morphology of Azotobacter Vinelandii Grown on Nutrient Agar

This research deals with the changes in cellular morphology of Azotobacter vinelandii cultured on nutrient agar. In particular, this study is concerned with the formation of intracellular particles and a description of their size and sequence of appearance. Changes in morphology of Azotobacter vinelandii grown on nutrient agar are contrasted photographically with morphology of Azotobacter vinelandii grown on Burk's nitrogen free medium.

Effect of Interferon and Retinoid on Phenotypic Reversion of Mammalian Cells Transformed by Temperature-Sensitive Mutants of the Avian Sarcoma Virus

The effects of rat fibroblast interferon and a retinoid (Ro 10-9359) on the transformed state were investigated using normal rat kidney (NRK) fibroblasts and its derived cell lines, B77-NRK, transformed by temperature-sensitive mutants of Rous sarcoma virus.
