A Study of Academic, Personal, Social and Financial Satisfactions of International Students at North Texas State University

The problem of this study was to determine the academic, personal, social, and financial level of satisfaction of the international students at North Texas State University. The subjects were 351 international students representing fifty-four different countries. These students were enrolled full time during the fall semester of 1981. The instrument used to gather the data was a questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated by a panel of experts and pretested on a small sample of international students.

Short-to-Medium Term Enrollment Projection Based on Cycle Regression Analysis (open access)

Short-to-Medium Term Enrollment Projection Based on Cycle Regression Analysis

Short-to-medium projections were made of student semester credit hour enrollments for North Texas State University and the Texas Public and Senior Colleges and Universities (as defined by the Coordinating Board, Texas College and University System). Undergraduate, Graduate, Doctorate, Total, Education, Liberal Arts, and Business enrollments were projected. Fall + Spring, Fall, Summer I + Summer II, Summer I were time periods for which projections were made. A new regression analysis called "cycle regression" which employs nonlinear regression techniques to extract multifrequential phenomena from time-series data was employed for the analysis of the enrollment data. The heuristic steps employed in cycle regression analysis are similar to those used in fitting polynomial models. A trend line and one or more sin waves (cycles) are simultaneously estimated using a partial F test. The process of adding cycle(s) to the model continues until no more significant terms can be estimated.

Initial Starting Posture and Total Body Movement-Reaction Time for Lateral Movement (open access)

Initial Starting Posture and Total Body Movement-Reaction Time for Lateral Movement

Eighteen subjects each performed fifty-five trials which consisted of assuming an initial stance and then in response to a visual stimulus running to either the left or right. For each trial both the foot width spacing and orientation of the feet were varied. Direct and indirect measurements were taken of selected temporal and kinematic parameters. The conclusions were that no interactions or differences exist among foot width spacing, foot orientation, and direction of movement; the jab step start is the preferred initial movement; the preferred foot width spacing is 46.6 centimeters; the preferred angular orientation of both feet is approximately 1.36 radians.

Plasma Ion Concentrations in Selected Fishes from Four North Central Texas Reservoirs with Different Salinities (open access)

Plasma Ion Concentrations in Selected Fishes from Four North Central Texas Reservoirs with Different Salinities

Mean salinity concentrations in the four reservoirs (Moss, Ray Hubbard, Texoma and Possum Kingdom) ranged from 0.2 ppt in Moss Lake to 2.01 ppt in Possum Kingdom Lake. Reservoir sodium and chloride concentrations were hypotonic to hypertonic to plasma levels in all species. Interspecific differences were seen in ionic concentrations within each reservoir. Total osmotic and sodium concentrations in carp, Cyprinus carpio, were correlated to their concentrations in the reservoirs. No such relationship was noted for chloride, potassium and calcium. A laboratory study indicated that fish collection by electroshock did not bias plasma ion concentrations. Exposures to wide variations in ionic concentrations did not appear to induce stress in the species studied.

The Effects of Surface Type on Experienced Foot Contact Pressures and Lower Limb Functioning During Running Performance (open access)

The Effects of Surface Type on Experienced Foot Contact Pressures and Lower Limb Functioning During Running Performance

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of different surfaces on lower limb motion and encountered pressures at two locations on the plantar surface of the right foot. Nine females performed five trials for each of four surface conditions. The results provided no evidence for surface-related changes in experienced foot contact pressures. Both asphalt and grass surfaces resulted in the shortest relative time of forefoot immobility. No surface related differences were found for the range of pronation.
