In Morte Nobilis is a cantata for chamber orchestra and three vocal soloists, and is approximately seventeen minutes in duration. Each of the three movements features a different vocal soloists (soprano, baritone, or tenor) and each movement concerns a specific Christian martyr. Texts for In Morte Nobilis are extracted from the writings and biographies of the martyrs. Each text gives the listener some insight as to how each martyr faced their death with courage and unwavering faith. The music of In Morte Nobilis gives additional insight as to what these martyrs faced. This is accomplished through a building and release of tension and dissonance, as well as some use of non-standard vocal technique.

Polysonisisms is a one-movement work for symphonic wind ensemble and electronic tape of approximately eleven minutes' duration. The title conveys two ideas: many sounds and processes. Pitch use is based on a system for calculating the potential dissonance of four-note sets. From this system all linear and vertical pitch materials are derived.

Variations Concerto is a work for large orchestra and solo trumpet of approximately sixteen minutes duration. The work is scored for piccolo, flute, two oboes (one doubling English horn), two clarinets in B-flat, bass clarinet in B-flat, two bassoons, four horns in F, three trumpets in B-flat, two trombones, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion, piano, the solo trumpet in C, and strings. The large percussion battery includes glockenspiel, xylophone, chimes, vibraphone, four graduated wood blocks, four graduated triangles, temple blocks, four high toms, finger cymbals, four wood drums, four automobile brake drums, five medium toms, four low toms, four graduated suspended cymbals, snare drum, and four graduated metal pipes.

Music for Katurah is scored for string quartet, flute, alto flute, soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, piano, and two percussion with total duration of approximately nineteen minutes. The work has three movements and uses spatial as well as standard notation. Each movement begins softly, builds gradually to a highpoint, and returns to the soft beginning. Timbral exploration and improvisation are prominent features in this piece. Also, through the use of spatial and standard notation, the piece combines strict rhythms and free rhythms.

This study is about the development of a curriculum guide which projects flexibility, continuity, sequential framework, and to a certain extent, uniformity, around which each teacher may build an art program that will best meet the students' needs. Areas pertinent to developing the curriculum guide are presented in light of literature in this field. The guide may be used to facilitate the teaching of art in recognizing and understanding artistic development that is essential in bringing to fruition the inherent individual ability of all the Junior High Catholic School students.

Human Alpha 1-acid Glycoprotein (AAG) was analyzed quantitavely and qualityatively for differences which could be associated with oncogenesis. Levels of seru, AAG were elevated in most mlignancies, particularly in malignant melanomas, malignant myelomas, and in solid tumors of the lung, kidney, colon, or other organs.

Separation of the pigment-lipid esters of Xanthomonas juglandis (campestris) in a silica gel G:celite 545 column yielded 4 bands. Two of these bands, ester #1 and #2, make up over 95% of the mixture. Analysis of the four pigments indicate that three are phospholipids and that the phosphate accounts for about 3-4% of the weight of each of the two major esters.

Although the present revival of interest in the lute and its music began in the late nineteenth century, it was not until the early 1970s that the historical method of lute playing in the Renaissance are paintings, woodcuts, old lutes, and lute books.

Thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography were used to compare pigments of the wild type streptomycin resistant strain of C. poinsettiae with those of mutants derived from it. Possible biosynthetic pathways in carotenoid biosynthesis of the wild type were postulated on the basis of observed blocks in pigment synthesis.

Kami is a two-movement composition for chamber orchestra. It is scored for two flutes; two Bb clarinets; bassoon; two F horns; Bb trumpet; bass trombone; a percussion section consisting of two performers alternating on triangle, suspended cymbal, three toms (low, medium, high), two timpani, and xylophone; piano; harp; and strings. The movements are approximately five and six minutes in duration, respectively, with a total duration of approximately eleven minutes. The title, Kami, is taken from the Japanese word for "god," and is meant to convey a sense of otherworldliness. This piece is intended as a fantasy for chamber orchestra, merging eastern and western musical influences.

This thesis examines the rhetorical dimensions of oral interpretation. A group interpretation script entitled "A New Prayer for Peace" was compiled and rehearsed. Two public performances were given to audiences in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth (Texas). The audience members were surveyed to solicit subjective reaction.

The purpose of this oral interpretation thesis is to explore Chamber Theatre as a medium for production. John Cheever and his work are analyzed, an explanation of Chamber Threatre is given, and Cheever's short story "The Country Husband" is adapted in Chamber Theatre script form, and a public performance is rehearsed and presented. The role of protein kinases in modulating cell proliferation was examined. Studies characterized the regulation of cell proliferation by adenosine 3':5'-monophosphate-dependent protein kinase (cA-PK). Calcium/calmodulin-dependent myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) was isolated and examined as a potential substrate regulated by cA-PK in the rapidly proliferating.

The lecture recital, given on April 18, 1983, began with biographical background that suggests the influences on the compositional development of both the composer, Charles Widor, and the poet, Paul Bourget, of the Chanons de mer. Songs were chosen to examine the characteristics that not only enhance Widor's poetic rendering, but impart to the Chansons de mer the more intellectual appeal often desired in today's concert repertoire.

The purpose of this study is to trace the role of music and music education in Abilene, Texas, from 1881 to 1911. The research presents historical data relative to five categories: Educational music, cultural music, religious music, music of the vernacular, and music merchandising. The study utilizes personal interviews, newspaper files, city directories, local histories, photographs, city and county documents, school documents, minutes of public school board meetings, minutes of meetings of churches, school catalogues, articles in journals, unpublished works, and published books.
