Black Gold is a compilation of interviews about life in African American communities in the Panola County area. The narratives discuss area history, customs, and events from various perspectives.

Letter from Mario Marcel Salas, president of the Black Coalition on Mass Media, to Mr. Moreno of the Booker T. Washington Foundation. He writes to thank him for a packet he sent, and for further help in organizing a model ordinance and perhaps even a representative to help with some negotiations.

Letter from Mario Marcel Salas of the Black Coalition on Mass Media to Phil Watson. He writes requesting that Mr. Watson evaluate an ordinance put out by the city of San Antonio regarding the UA-Columbia franchise, a cable television provider that was seeking business in the area. He also requested that one of Mr. Watson's people look over his own approach to the franchise before a hearing was to take place; presumably, Mr. Salas had concerns about the company coming to San Antonio.

Letter from Mario Marcel Salas to Center Atkins of KAPE radio. According to Mr. Salas, requests for an invitation and prior correspondences have gone unanswered, and the lack of concern has left him no choice but to file a report with the Federal Communications Commission(FCC).

Minutes for a July 1978 meeting of the Black Coalition on Mass Media, a civil rights organization for the betterment of African-American representation in the media. The document contains lists on issues discussed and the names of those present.

Memorandum from the national headquarters of The Links, Inc. to chapter presidents requesting that all chapters complete and submit several administrative documents. Includes a form inventory and official request for forms as well as a blank membership roster form.

Letter from Julia Brogdan Purnell to members of The Links, Inc. Purnell is thankful for members' contributions, and, in that vein, she is sharing a brief article from The Morning Advocate, a Baton Rouge newspaper, about the recent philanthropic activities of Links. Also includes a photocopy of the article.

Funeral program for Mrs. Mary Gunthorpe Bumbrey. The funeral was held Wednesday, December 13, 1978 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, officiated by Rev. A. R. Nelson, Pastor. Funeral arrangements were made through Carter-Taylor Williams Mortuary.

Funeral program for Brother Payton Butler, born 1900 and died January 27, 1978. The funeral was held Thursday, February 2, 1978 at Mount Zion First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Claude W. Black, Minister. Funeral arrangements were made through Carter-Taylor Mortuary and he was buried in City Cemetery No. 3 in San Antonio, Texas.

Letter from Richard "Rico" Hernandez, Deputy Assistant to President Jimmy Carter, to John J. Herrera, apologizing for misplacing Herrera's address, and thanking Herrera for his contributions during their meeting with the President. The letter is typed on White House letterhead.

Letter to John J. Herrera written at the suggestion of Rick Hernandez, responding to the suggestion Herrera wished to pass on to President Jimmy Carter regarding undocumented aliens. Knapp explains that President Carter has sent a comprehensive plan on to Congress and they were not inclined to act ahead of Congress.

Letter from John J. Herrera to Joseph A. Porto regarding American Express versus League of United Latin American Citizens, dated January 9, 1978, and refers to an enclosed order.

Letter from Ray A. Gano to Honorable Eduardo Morga, National LULAC President, dated February 6, 1978, and printed on League of United Latin American Citizens latterhead. The subject of the letter is the National LULAC Convention in Las Vegas. Gano expresses concern over the lack of planning and preparation for the convention and suggests that Arizona's Phoenix Council be put in charge of the event.

Letter from John J. Herrera to Honorable Eduardo Morga, National President of League of United Latin American Citizens. In the letter, Herrera commends Morga for citing Roberto Ornelas and requests advice on other LULAC matters.

Letter handwritten on League of United Latin American Citizens letterhead and dated November 28, 1978. The letter is from Manuel Gonzales to Manuel H. Garcia, attorney. The letter discusses the lawsuit against LULAC by Banco Internacional. The letter also refers to an enclosed letter from Eduardo Pena, LULAC National President, and a copy of LULAC's Articles of Incorporation.

Copy of a mailgram from Manuel Gonzales to Ed Pena, League of United Latin American Citizens National President, dated November 13, 1978. In the telegram, Gonzales urges Pena as the current president to contact LULAC's attorney regarding the court date for the suit against LULAC by Banco Internacional. Testimony will be needed at the trial.
