The $7 million project, the largest bridge contract ever awarded by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, began last October and is due for completion next autumn. Spans are expected to be set over the Northwest Expressway beginning in February, but department spokesman said traffic tieups should be minimal. I-44 is planned to connect with I-35 to the east by 1980."

Caption: "A Guthrie motorist who piled up a backlog of traffic tickets recently is being sought for questioning in connection with the destruction of a police car here. The car, parked behind the Guthrie police station, was set afire, apparently by an arsonist, shortly after midnight Tuesday, police said. "We've got a suspect in mind," Guthrie Police chief Leroy Sears said. "He was arrested two days ago on drug possession and also had a lot of traffic tickets," the police chief said, adding the suspect had phoned in threats...........Night dispatcher Kenneth Hirzel said he heard a door slam outside the station about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday. The car was demolished within minutes, Chief Sears said. "The fire station's only half block away. That car burned in just a matter of minutes," he said. A shotgun on an electronically controlled rack melted and $2,000 worth of radar and radio equipment was charred, he added."
