Evening dress of red, blue and gray polyester silk chiffon with scarf. A) Dress has draped bodice with moderate deep V-neckline. Center front lapped opening with three hook & eyes and two snaps as the closure. Set-in modified kimono sleeves gather at the top of the arm eye and at 1-1/2" cuffs. The cuffs fasten with a single loop and covered shank button. The sleeves are open/slit along the outer edge and under arm. Natural waist seam with full-length, semi-full red polyester silk underskirt and printed chiffon over skirt. The underskirt is slit at the side seams. The bodice is fully lined in red polyester silk. Elasticized waistline. Shoulder pads. Designer's label at center back neckline: "Hanae Mori" Fiber content/care tag, union label and style/size tag at right side seam of lining. B) Scarf/sash of matching printed chiffon. Long narrow rectangular shape with rolled hem. Worn as a scarf it would hang to mid-calf. Worn as a sash it would be hem length.

Western Influences on Japanese Use of Interior Space

This study is concerned with describing the changing concepts of space utilization in Japanese house design and the cultural forces producing the changes. Sources of information include literature spanning approximately one hundred years, a Japanese student of interior design, and-the Japanese Trade Commission in Dallas, Texas. A description of concepts of space design that were very stable for centuries in the Japanese house. The changes in architecture following World War II, and a contemporary house design by a noted Japanese architect are related to concurrent religious, philosophical, and economic forces. The influence of western culture upon Japanese life-style and design solutions to space problems is either indicated or inferred.

Long flowing, bell-shaped sleeves and flared skirt. Skirt and sleeve hems have monofilament inserted to give body and shape. Bodice lined in light blue rayon chiffon. Jacket

Man's jacket in Japanese ghee style. Black basket weave double-faced fabric of heavy, 100% cotton. Exterior with red and white accent stripes on shoulders running down the 3/4 length sleeves, and horizontally around lower part of coat. On collar, running down front are white Kanji characters. Center front opening with no fasteners. On back is single large Kanji character in white on red circle with white border. Design on inside is printed into fabric, of ladder, fire with smoke, and water running down. Discharge printed, drawing color out, then printed over with red. Warp and weft are two distinct fibers, one allows dye to come out, other does not. Retailer's label inside: "Kimono Shop / Honolulu / Made in Japan" Content/size label inside: "100% Cotton / Made in Japan / Small"
