Six phase rectifier digital computer simulation (open access)

Six phase rectifier digital computer simulation

A digital computer program has been developed for the simulation of a six-pulse converter with a resistance-inductance load. The program calculates the time histories of the voltages and currents on both the ac and dc sides of the rectifier bridges. The grid delay angle is calculated in terms of the load current, supply voltage, and commutating reactance. The program is written in FORTRAN and is executable on the CDC7600 Plotted output of ten variables can be requested. This program is a preliminary effort toward the development of analytical and programming techniques that can be used in the simulation of the twelve-pulse controlled rectifiers in the TFTR toroidal field coil energy conversion system.

Direct and Indirect Immunofluorescence Staining of Fecal Streptococci for Rapid Assessment of Water Quality (open access)

Direct and Indirect Immunofluorescence Staining of Fecal Streptococci for Rapid Assessment of Water Quality

Immunofluorescence (IF) techniques were employed in an attempt to develop a rapid test for the identification of fecal streptococci. Fresh isolates were obtained from river waters and raw sewage. Identification to species were made by the conventional physiological, biochemical, and serological tests. Both whole and disrupted cells of representative strains of each species were used for the preparation of the fecal streptococcal vaccine. Globulin fractions of individual and pooled antisera were labeled with fluorescein isothiocyanate, and the resulting conjugates were tested with homologous and heterologous antigens. The present findings suggest that the immunofluorescence techniques can be employed in the determination of the presence and source of fecal pollution in water employing the fecal streptococci as indicator organisms. By using this method it was determined that fecal streptococci can be identified from water and sewage samples within 20 hours. Parenthetically it should be noted that the identification procedures using the routine biochemical and serological tests may take as long as 7 to 14 days. The procedure may be automated for continual monitoring.

Cover-gas seals. FFTF-LMFBR seal-test program. Progress report, January-March 1975

The objectives of the general seal test program are to: (1) conduct static and dynamic tests to demonstrate or determine the mechanical performance of full-size (cross section) FFTF fuel transfer machine and reactor vessel head seals intended for use in a sodium vapor - inert gas environment, (2) demonstrate that these FFTF seals or new seal configurations provide acceptable fission product and cover gas retention capabilities at Clinch River Breeder Reactor Plant (CRBRP) operating environmental conditions other than radiation, (3) develop improved seals and seal technology for the CRBRP to support the national objective to reduce all atmospheric contaminations to low levels, and (4) publish a Design Guide for reactor seals along with Ordering Data.

Whispers Out of Time

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Recording of James Dashow's Whispers Out of Time. The title of this piece refers to the last line in a poem titled "Portrait in a Convex Mirror" by John Ashbery (1975). The composer used a VCS3, three ReVox tape recorders each with vari-speed gadget, and an AKG reverberation unit in an attempt to express with electronic sounds the moods, feelings, and sensations the four words of the title invoked in him.

Skelelemedania

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Recording of Hal Freedman's Skelelemedania. This piece falls into three sections; the first and third combine live and tape sounds, and the second is for tape alone. The piece as a whole represents an expansion of the middle tape section. The more purely electronic layers were composed to complement or contrast with the vocal elements. The first and third sections make use of tape echo and delay systems. The timing of the repetitions allow the delay to be heard not as feedback but as a continuous evolution of texture and harmonic, melodic, and contrapuntal interplay.

In Celebration

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Recording of Charles Dodge's In Celebration. "In Celebration" was composed during the first part of 1975. The composition tends to capture the spirit and structure of Mark Strand's poem and to give it a coherent sense musically. The poem has a two-part structure separated by the reappearance of the verse "You sit in a chair.” The two parts of the poem can be distinguished from each other by the different degrees of passivity attributed to the "You,” the person to whom the poem is addressed.

Haauqui

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Recording of Graciela Paraskevaídis's Haauqui (pronounced Wauki or Ouaouki) for two-track tape. The title is a Qechua word referring to a small statue carried by the Incas that resembles their own image, a meaning extended to brotherhood, community, and friendship. The sound events, created from both microphonic and electronic sources, aim at a non-discursive, non-anecdotic function based on a self-imposed simplicity and on the presence of structural silence. It was realized at Elac, pequeno estudio de Montevideo, in 1975.

Study on reduction of accessory horsepower requirements. Fourth quarterly progress report (open access)

Study on reduction of accessory horsepower requirements. Fourth quarterly progress report

The program objective is to evolve and define an accessory drive system that will minimize system power consumption of driven accessories on an internal combustion engine in a passenger automobile. The initial three program phases established concept feasibility, determined potential fuel savings, and selected a drive system design for concept mechanization. During this quarter the major program accomplishments were: selection of candidate belt-drive concepts; completion of Phase III baseline vehicle drive systems physical and operational envelopes; completion of analysis for a mechanically controlled direct-operated belt drive with input programming; and completion of design layout and analysis for a hydromechanically controlled, servo-operated belt drive with output-speed sensing. Memorandum on the dipole--dipole resistivity results over the East Mesa geothermal anomaly, Imperial Valley, California (open access)

Memorandum on the dipole--dipole resistivity results over the East Mesa geothermal anomaly, Imperial Valley, California

Some of the results of a resistivity survey completed over the East Mesa geothermal anomaly in Imperial County, California are presented. The area of the heat flow high correlates quite closely with a gravity high and with a seismic ground noise high. A reconnaissance resistivity survey using the Schlumberger electrode configuration was also completed in the Imperial Valley. These data show that a weak resistivity low exists at the East Mesa, at the contact between very low resistivity sediments to the west and slightly higher resistivity rocks to the east. Dipole-dipole resistivity measurements were made through the center of the heat-flow high using x = 2,000', N = 1,2,3,4,5 along lines about five miles long. The results indicate a distinct resistivity low, at depth, that correlates with the East Mesa geothermal high. The details of the resistivity low can be seen much more clearly in the dipole-dipole data than from the reconnaissance survey. (JGB)

Numerical study of boundary layer injection as a scale control method (open access)

Numerical study of boundary layer injection as a scale control method

A boundary layer injection method of controlling scale-buildup in geothermal two-phase flow nozzles is studied. The object of this study is to set an upper limit on the ratio of the injected mass flow rate to the free stream mass flow rate that is necessary to isolate the scale carrying free stream flow from the nozzle wall. In order to develop a numerical model of the boundary layer flow, assumptions are made which reduce the results to order of magnitude approximations. Two configurations of nozzles with various injection flow rates are tried. It is found by numerical experiment that a nozzle with injection through a 1 mm thick ring near the inlet, is more efficient at isolating the free stream than a porous nozzle. A mass flow rate ratio of 0.173% was necessary to achieve this effect. It may be concluded that an upper limit on the mass flow rate ratio is about 2.0% with injection through a ring near the inlet, and that boundary layer injection is a reasonable method of controlling scale-buildup. A glossary of variables, program documentation and listings are presented for programs GMD15SR8, TRACK11, and TRACK12.
