1-1/2-Loop Semiscale Isothermal Test Program: Program and System Description in Support of Experiment Data Reports.
The isothermal test series is part of the Semiscale Blowdown and Emergency Core Cooling (ECC) Project conducted by Aerojet Nuclear Company for the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission. The test series consisted of ten blowdown tests and five hot-wall tests with emphasis on emergency core coolant delivery. The blowdown tests were conducted to investigate the effects of lower plenum geometry, heat transfer configuration, ECC injection location, downcomer gap size, and break size.

1 - FFTF-LMFBR seal test program, July-September 1974
The objectives of the general seal test program are to: (1) conduct static and dynamic tests to demonstrate or determine the mechanical performance of full-size (cross-section) FFTF fuel transfer machine and reactor vessel head seals intended for use in a sodium vapor - inert gas environment, (2) demonstrate that these FFTF seals or new seal configurations provide acceptable fission product and cover gas retention capabilities at Clinch River Breeder Reactor Plant (CRBRP) operating environmental conditions other than radiation, (3) develop improved seals and seal technology for the CRBRP to support the national objective to reduce all atmospheric contaminations to low levels, and (4) publish a Design Guide for reactor seals along with Ordering Data. Test results for the quarter are presented.

200-GeV ISA with room temperature magnets
A conceptual design study of 200-GeV proton intersecting storage accclerators with room temperature magnets is presented. The key to this study was thc desire to keep the electric power consumptiom to an acceptable level (40 MW). The design has been optimized by choosing small-gap (4 cm) aluminum coil dipoles operating at about 15 kG. The luminosity of this machine is limited to about 10/sup 32/ cm-/sup -2/ sec/sup -1/ by transverse space-charg e effects. An order of magnitude higher luminositics can be obtained by adding a booster of modest cost. A novel vacuum system using distributed Ti-sublimation pumps results in considerable savings. A cost comparison with a high-luminosity superconducting machine is given. (auth)

234-5 bank tank circulation studies
In the Plutonium Reclamation Facility a critically-safe geometry of the processing vessels, combined with economical utilization of building space, has resulted in manifolded, vertical tanks for blending, receiving, holding, etc. The pumps attached to the bottom-outlet manifolds of the tanks are of a canned motor type. The extremely short life of these pumps (considerably below that expected even in severe abrasive and corrosive service) prompted a series of studies using glass tanks containing process solutions which, except for the associated radioactivity, duplicate plant process streams. Circulation, blending, and reaction characteristics of simulated process streams in glass duplicates of the 234-5 Bank Tanks TK-17, TK-27, and TK-37 revealed circulation patterns that result in intermittent cavitation within the canned motor transfer pumps. This cavitation, combined with the unavoidable corrosion and abrasion, rapidly destroys the pumps. The circulation patterns, under varying liquid levels as encountered in plant operation, cause single and dual phase transfer of the organic aqueous solutions to process colunans at different times, which results in flooding and erratic extraction efficencies. Reduction of cavitation and elimination of mixed phase transfer has been demonstrated by means of parallel controllable orifices in the external circulation lines. Elimination of cavitation and uniformity of mixing …

[402 SW 5th Street]
A Victorian-era home (in Queen Anne style) is shown here, at 402 SW 5th Street. Please note the one-story tower, the multiple hip roofs and intersecting gables (which is characteristic of the style) and wraparound porch (which is much less so). The columns on the porch suggest a Free Classic sub-type, but other elements of the sub-type appear to be missing. Cut-away bays (common in Queen Anne architecture) are also missing, all of which suggest that this house had been remodeled sometime in the past.
