Diffusion estimation for small emissions. Preliminary report (open access)

Diffusion estimation for small emissions. Preliminary report

A simplified approach is presented to the calculation of ground level concentrations of effluents from small industrial and fuel burning installations. It is intended to serve as a first approximation to a very complex process. Because each stack, building, and terrain configuration is different, actual ground concentrations may frequently differ from the values calculated here by a factor of two. Nonetheless, this procedure should be useful for determining whether ambient air quality standards are likely to be met, exceeded, or only marginally obtained. It also predicts the locations where the highest and most frequent ground concentrations are likely. Sampling at several such locations is very advisable, unless the predicted concentrations are quite low. In addition, consultation with a specialist in air pollution meteorology may be desirable, especially in marginal or unique situations. The procedures given here were designed especially for source heights of less than 100 m; some of the simplifications made are not valid for large emissions. In the few cases where more than arithmetic formulas are necessary, simple nomograms are provided.

International conference on bone mineral measurement, October 12--13, 1973, Chicago, Illinois

From international conference on bone mineral measurement; Chicago, Illinois, USA (12 Oct 1973). Abstracts of papers presented at the international conference on bone mineral measurement are presented. The papers were grouped into two sessions: a physical session including papers on measuring techniques, errors, interpretation and correlations, dual photon techniques, and data handling and exchange; a biomedical session including papers on bone disease, osteoporosis, normative data, non-disease influences, renal, and activity and inactivity. Cobalt-60 heat source demonstration program. Phase III. Fabrication. Final report (open access)

Cobalt-60 heat source demonstration program. Phase III. Fabrication. Final report

Significant accomplishments completed during Phase III of the /sup 60/Co Heat Source Demonstration program include the following: encapsulation of 2 MCi of /sup 60/Co; fabrication of the heat source, including the ASME coded pressure vessel/core assembly, and biological shielding; endurance testing of a prototype heat pipe for a period of 28 months; fabrication and qualification of the heat pipe emergency cooling subsystem; issue of the safety evaluation report, reference 3, and the operations manual, reference 4; and heat source assembly. The planned demonstration test program was modified to include testing of a total power system. Based on an evaluation of available power conversion systems, which included the closed-cycle Brayton and organic Rankine systems, the closed-cycle Brayton system was selected for use. Selection was based on advantages offered by the direct coupling of this conversion system with the gas-cooled heat source. In implementing the test program, the AiResearch BCD power conversion system was to be coupled to the heat source following initial heat source performance testing and part way through the endurance test. In accordance with the program redirection the following Phase IV checkout operations were completed to evaluate procedural and hardware acceptability: heat source dummy fueling; fueling cask sielding survey; …

Rio Blanco Massive Hydraulic Fracture: Project Definition (open access)

Rio Blanco Massive Hydraulic Fracture: Project Definition

The Piceance Basin in Colorado contains an estimated 600 trillion cu ft of natural gas in place. Both the Rulison and Rio Blanco events have been detonated to determine the feasibility of nuclear fracturing to stimulate natural gas production in this basin. A demonstration program to test the relative effectiveness of massive hydraulic fracturing (MHF) to achieve natural gas production stimulation from the same gas reservoir is presented. Details are included on MHF design parameters, including surface and subsurface equipment, pumping requirements, evaluation of fracturing results, and all associated test programs; site characteristics and preparation; proposal for gas utilization program; environmental surveillance and comparative analysis of environmental aspects of MHF and nuclear stimulation; gas delivery estimates; project administration; and costs and scheduling.

Design data and safety features of commercial nuclear power plants. Vol. I. Docket No. 50-3 through 50-295

BS>Design data, safety features, and site characteristics are summarized for thirty-two commercial nuclear power plants in the United States. Six pages of data are presented for each plant consisting of Thermal-Hydraulic and Nuclear Factors, Containment Features, Emergency Core Cooling Systems, Site Features, Circulating Water System Data, and Miscellaneous Factors. An aerial perspective is also presented for each plant. Those covered in this volume are Indian Point No. 1, Docket Number 50-3, and all subsequent plants finishing with Zion, Docket Number 50-295. Fresca

Access: Use of this item is restricted to the UNT Community
Recording of Liviu Dandara's Fresca. Fresca synthesizes folk sound phenomena that accompany the daily events of Romanians. There are three intensity curves, proportionally equal. They correspond to the songs/signals of work, funeral music, and love songs. The dynamic culmination is reached in the same section, which interferes with the space and time of the folk festival. The final represents the filtering of a reverberation of the culmination of the work, accompanied by fragments of the motive-echo, which suggests permanence.
