Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "While the fuss was going on and on about itsa roof, the work has steadily moved ahead underneath the Myriad Zconvention Center's giant spans. Now, it is about to be finished, and Oklahoma City public events officials are busy lining up attractions to follow the opening in October. A committee of civic leaders has been appointed by Mayor Latting to chart a gala opening to include top-name entertainment, a state-wide press preview and public tours. One word describes the Myriad best. It's BIG. The center covers most of a four-square-block in the heart of downtown......The Myriad has more floor space than the 35-story Liberty Tower soaring above it to the north. It has 950,000 square feet of space above the ground and 575,000 below. More than 1,140 automobiles can park in the underground lot."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Three months ahead of its schedule completion date, the Myriad Convention Center was the scene Wdnesday of its first public event - the monthly meeting of the Major Industry Beautifaction Council of Oklahoma City Beautiful. Principal speaker James B. White, director of the Oklahoma City Urban Renewal Authority (OCCURA), presented a verbal tour of the proposed Myriad Gardens complex to 50 members and guests who sweltered without benefit of the center's 2,800-ton air conditiong system. Calling the gardens "a way of providing a natural environment" with the city, White said the 11-acre project directly west of the convention center could become more than the focal point of the downtown business district, "but a regional attraction of its own." "We're right on the verge of realizing a drea that goes back more than a decade," White said before praising the late Oklahoma Sen. Robert S. Kerr, who was among the first to express a concern for the problems faced by central city cores....Don Kaspereit, OCCURA planning director, followed White with a slide presentation."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "With more than 150,000 eyes riveted to the threatening sky, the Air Forces's Thunderbirds precision demonstration squadron climaxed the Fourth of July open house Tuesday at Tinker Air Force Base with a dazzling aerial performance. The five red, white, and blue Phantom II jets performed a series of close-formation rolls, loops, wedges and dives which kept the huge audience lining the Tinker runway oohing and aahing throughout the 30-minute show. Because of the low cloud ceiling, the Thunderbirds modified their show slightly, cancelling the high bomb-burst formation. This standard low-cloud modification did not refeclt any new caution following last month's mishap at Transpo 72 which killed Maj. Joe Howard, Thunderbird supply chief chief Jim Lenners explained. Although the sun never did break through the clouds, "the cool weather was a blessing in disguise," said Don Atkins, Oklahoma City Air Materials area news bureau chief......The whine of the small model aircraft engines, however, did not prepare the spectators for the roar of the 35,000-pound thrust engines which later launched the five Phantoms skyward. Following an ear-shattering ignition, the jets (continued on Page 2, Col. 1)"
