Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Bumper stickers have come a long, long way since the Alf Landon sunflower, an invitation to "Eat Beef" and that start-of-school warning, "Watch That Child." Today you can get everything from a blush to a chuckle to a gummy bumber out of these attempmts at humor on the move. And, it isn't just the folks with a political message or a sick joke. who take to their bumpers with their message. Evangelism, even, is having a bumper crop. "If You Love Jesus, Honk," is one improbable message. "One Way," says another, with a finger pointing toward heaven. All this and the bumper-sticking season is just starting. Election year makes dividends of companies that make bumper stickers - and for emporiums after the election as the losers try to eradicate proof they rode the wrong horse. They cover up their embarrasment by sticking on those "Don't Blame Me" stickers."
