Proposed Guidelines for an Industrial Arts Program for the Mentally Retarded in Public School Systems (open access)

Proposed Guidelines for an Industrial Arts Program for the Mentally Retarded in Public School Systems

The problem was concerned with determining what skills were necessary for the employment of the mentally retarded and what guidelines may be used in developing these skills in the secondary level industrial arts program. The study developed guidelines which should prove useful to an industrial arts instructor having mentally retarded students in his classroom. The guidelines were based upon the results of an industrial survey and available literature.

An Analysis of a Procedure Employing the Mowrer Imitation Paradigm in Relationship to the Generalized Imitation Procedure for Establishing Vocal Imitation

The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of an ancillary procedure, the Mowrer imitation paradigm, in conjunction with an ongoing generalized imitation program. It was hypothesized that the ancillary program would accelerate the acquisition of vocal imitation relative to a situation In which the generalized imitation procedure was employed alone.

Person Orientation of College Students' Vocational Interests as a Function of their Parents' Perceptions of Parent-Child Interactions (open access)

Person Orientation of College Students' Vocational Interests as a Function of their Parents' Perceptions of Parent-Child Interactions

This study investigated what relationship might exist between the parents' view of their interactions with their children and the degree of person orientation in their children's vocational interests. The hypotheses of this study were that the parents of subjects with toward-person-oriented vocational interests would perceive their interactions with their children as being more loving and overtly attentive than parents of subjects with away-from-person-oriented vocational interests. It was further hypothesized that these differences would be greater for males than for females.

Effects of High Altitude Exposure on Capillary Permeability (open access)

Effects of High Altitude Exposure on Capillary Permeability

Observations of decreases in plasma volume, shifts in plasma and lymph protein concentrations, and increases in capillary permeability at high altitude have been reported in the literature by several investigators. This investigation was begun in an attempt to elucidate the possible significance of these phenomena in future space exploration, and because of the lack of knowledge concerning the underlying mechanisms. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of exposure to hypobaric pressures on the capillary permeability to the normal plasma and lymph proteins.

Anglo-Spanish Relations during World War I (open access)

Anglo-Spanish Relations during World War I

This investigation is concerned with the determination of the exact nature of Anglo-Spanish relations during World War I. It examines the nature of these relations in an attempt to define Spain's commitment to her neutrality policy and the amount of pressure placed upon Spain by Britain in order to force Spain to adopt a policy of at least "benevolent neutrality." Most historical accounts heretofore have accepted the idea that Spain simply refused to abandon her neutrality policy.

Semitopological Groups (open access)

Semitopological Groups

This thesis is a study of semitopological groups, a similar but weaker notion than that of topological groups. It is shown that all topological groups are semitopological groups but that the converse is not true. This thesis investigates some of the conditions under which semitopological groups are, in fact, topological groups. It is assumed that the reader is familiar with basic group theory and topology.

An Investigation of the Effect of Normative Systems on an Empirical Variable (open access)

An Investigation of the Effect of Normative Systems on an Empirical Variable

This investigation is concerned, with the problem of the normative constraints upon scientific research within the broad theoretical framework of the sociology of knowledge, i.e., the contention that knowledge is functionally related to the social system. The concepts "knowledge" and "Social system" are open to wide interpretation; however, in this study knowledge refers to an empirically verifiable variable and the social system is synonomous with the normative system.

Early Recognition of Minimal Brain Injury through Use of the Metropolitan Readiness Tests

This study explored the usefulness of the Metropolitan Readiness Tests (MRT) as a screening device for minimal brain injury. It was hypothesized that brain injured (BI) children would score significantly lower on Test Six of the MRT than non-brain injured (NBI) children. Test Six is a visual-motor perceptual task.

Biochemically Induced Avoidance of Saccharin: a Parametric Study

The purpose of this study was to examine some of the parameters of saccharin avoidance relating to varying dose sizes of the colloidal suspension, Proferrin. Since studies reveal additive effects when irradiation and Proferrin are used together, it was hypothesized that different degrees of avoidance would be obtained by using various dose levels.

The Training of Older Workers in Industry (open access)

The Training of Older Workers in Industry

This study examines the older worker's position in industrial organizations. The focus of the discussion is concerned with identifying older workers' occupational problems as well as speculating on possible solutions to these problems. In addition, the material seeks to analyze some of the numerous social and economic organizational variables which interact to help determine the overall position of the older worker in our economy. Of specific concern to this study is the training of older workers--training by an industrial organization in order to (1) treat the older worker's unemployment resulting from organizational displacement, (2) facilitate his promotion in an organization, and (3) prepare him for retirement.

The Nature and Degree of Feminine Influence on English Politics from 1702 to 1737, as Exemplified by Five Women (open access)

The Nature and Degree of Feminine Influence on English Politics from 1702 to 1737, as Exemplified by Five Women

This investigation is concerned with the amount of influence which women had on English politics at the close of the seventeenth century and during the early eighteenth century. Generally, it is assumed that women played a negligible part in politics until the twentieth century; a critical study of the Augustan period, however, shows this to be an invalid assumption. Women were, during that period, elevated to positions of leadership and ascendancy unparalleled until the twentieth century.
