Donald Eugene Chipman began his work at the University of North Texas as an associate professor of history in 1965. He received the title of full professor in 1968. Dr. Chipman retired during the 2000-2001 school year. In 2003 King Juan Carlos I of Spain recognized his research in Spanish America and appointed him as a Knight of the Royal Order of Isabel the Catholic, the highest honor that can be accorded a non-Spaniard.
