Measurement of the Polarization in Elastic Electron ProtonScattering (open access)

Measurement of the Polarization in Elastic Electron ProtonScattering

We have measured the (illegible) scattering (?-illegible) of electrons (?-illegible) from a polarized proton target. (illegible) between (?-illegible) imaginary part of the two-photon-(illegible) (illegible) photon-exchange amplitude could produce (?-illegible) (illegible) results indicate no asymmetry within (illegible) 1 to 2% at four(?-illegible)-momentum transfer (illegible) (illegible) 0.98 (GeV/c){sup 2}.

Prelimiary investigation desalting of geothermal brines in the Imperial Valley of California (open access)

Prelimiary investigation desalting of geothermal brines in the Imperial Valley of California

The Imperial Valley Project is an applied research program to provide geologic, hydrologic, engineering, and economic information necessary for development of the geothermal resources of the delta of the lower Colorado River. It is suggested that a desalting pilot plant be associated with the project to develop an economic desalting process if 2 to 3% geothermal brine is produced. The process will be unconventional in that waste heat must be rejected to atmosphere in wet or dry cooling towers. The presence of large amounts of CO/sub 2/, H/sub 2/S, and silica will require gas removal and silicascale control equipment. The plant would process up to 75,000 gallons of brine per day. (MCW)

Savannah River Plant engineering, design, and construction history of ``S`` projects and other work, January 1961--December 1964. Volume 2 (open access)

Savannah River Plant engineering, design, and construction history of ``S`` projects and other work, January 1961--December 1964. Volume 2

The work described in this volume of ``S`` Projects History is an extension of the type of work described in Volume I. E.I. du Pont de flemours & Company had entered into Contract AT (07-2)-l with the United States Atomic Energy Commission to develop, design, construct, install, and operate facilities to produce heavy water, fissionable materials, and related products. Under this contract,, Du Pont constructed and operated the Savannah River Plant. The engineering, design, and construction for most of the larger ``S`` projects was performed by the Engineering DeDartment. For some of the large and many of the smaller projects the Engineering Department was responsible only for the construction because the Atomic Energy Division (AED) of the Explosives Department handled the other phases. The Engineering Department Costruction Division also performed the physical work for many of the plant work orders. This volume includes a general description of the Du Pont Engineering Department activities pertaining to the engineering, design, and construction of the ``S`` projects at the Savannah River Plant; brief summaries of the projects and principal work requests; and supplementary informaticn on a few subjects in Volume I for which final data was not available at the closing date. SEARCH FOR T-VIOLATION IN THE INELASTIC SCATTERING OF ELECTRONSFROM A POLARIZED PROTON TARGET (open access)

SEARCH FOR T-VIOLATION IN THE INELASTIC SCATTERING OF ELECTRONSFROM A POLARIZED PROTON TARGET

The authors have searched for an asymmetry in the inelastic scattering of electrons from a polarized proton target in the region of resonance excitation, at values of four-momentum transfer squared of 0.4, 0.6 and 1.0 (GeV/c){sup 2}. Data were also taken using an incident positron beam in order to distinguish any possible effect of time-reversal violation from that due to higher-order ({alpha}{sup 3}) contributions to the scattering. No sizeable violation of time-reversal invariance was found.

Study of Proton Hole States in 1f/sub 7/2/ Nuclei by the (p,2p) Reaction at 46 MeV

Proton hole states in the 1f/sub 7/2/ nuclei /sup 46/Ti, /sup 54/Fe, /sup 56/Fe, /sup 58/Ni, and /sup 60/Ni have been studied with the (p,2p) reaction with 46-MeV protons. The measured binding energies and angular correlations are consistent with the binding energies and orbital angular momentum assignments (1f/sub 7/2/, 2s/sub 1/2/, and 1d/sub 3/2/) obtained from proton pick-up reactions. 3 figures, 1 table.

SOD1 UM FIRE ACCIDENTS IN REACTOR COtdTAI NMENT VOLUME: A SUMMARY OF PARAMETR-I C STUDIES

Atmospheric pressure and temperature excursions at constant volume for oxidation of high temperature sodium are investigated analytically. Data under both the adiabatic condition and the time dependent transient heat transfer condition are reported. The analyses represent parametric cases involving variations in containment geometry, variations in sodium conditions, and variations in contained gas conditions including oxygen concentrations of 0 to 21 vol%. The objective is to obtain data for design of containment for the Fast Flux Test Facility. Design of containment requires a knowledge of maximum temperatures and pressures to be expected as a consequence of the unlikely occurrence of a high volume sodium leak. This information is presented in graphical and tabular form.
