Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Former Gov. Roy J. Turner says there was never too much excitement around the mansion at Christmas time when he and his family lived there. "They were just average Christmases, I guess," he said. We tried to have all members of the family who could come to be there." Turner did not care too much for living in the manison. In those days he preferred his Hereford Heaven ranch home...Shortly before Christmas, he picked up a check for $31,400,000 to build the Turner Turnpike. Ground was broken Dec. 19, 1950......The gathering included the two children, Bill and Betty; the governor's mother, Etta L. Grim; Mrs. Tirners' mother, Jessica Grim; Turner's sister, Mrs. Charles Greer, and her son, Charles. "It was a real big day," Turner recalled."

Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Mrs. Frances Wood, 63, of 1500 NE 69, had just awakened and was sitting in bed listening to the radio when the blast occured. Her toy Manchester Cricket, was with her at the east side of the single story brick home. Steam Blamed The explosion originated in the west end and was attributed to a buildup of steam in a water heater. "I was frightened," Mrs. Wood said. "My mouth was so dry, I couldn't scream.
