As requested in the referenced letter, we have reviewed our research and development programs with respect to our ability to meet desirable program objectives at annual funding levels of 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 million dollars. Program objectives which we propose for Hanford include the following: (1) Continuation of safe and efficient plant operation and provision for long reactor life. (2) Development completed to permit reactors to comply with Federal and State regulations on confinement and discharges to the river by FY-1974-1975 when non-national defense needs will predominate. (4) Tritium production at a rate of 25 kg per year starting in FY-1972.
