Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "It was a quiet day, for a change, at the state capitol Sunday - sort of the calm after and perhaps the calm before the storm Monday. Working six-hour shifts to keep the desk open in the house, members (four to a shift) whiled away the hours until the recess ends Monday afternoon. A similar vigil was being kept in the senate. In a relaxed atmosphere, far different from the last few days, the legislators read newspapers and munched sandwiches brought with them or brought in by their wives. (Photo tag: Rep. Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Flames shoot up through roof of house. Fire raged through a vacant northwest Oklahoma City duplex early Wednesday destroying new carpet and some antique furniture and causing an estimated $10,000 damage. District Chief George Rummel said the blaze started in the basement of the two-story duplex at 1619 NW 17, went up the stairways and out the roof. Rummel said the cause of the fire is still undetermined. He said the house was locked and there was no evidence of a break-in. He said he does not suspect arson at this time. Rummel said a resident who lived next door to the duplex came home about midnight but did not spot any fire. The fire alarm was sounded at 12:58 a.m....Rummel said the owner, Jack Harry, was remodeling the duplex, and piles of new carpeting ready to be laid and some antique furniture were damaged in the fire..."The carpet around around the floor furnaces was still intact," Rummel said."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Dedication ceremonies Sunday for the Glenn C. Couch Center, a $13 million housing complex at the University of Oklahoma, provided OU President George L. Cross an opportunity to reminisce about the late Dean Couch. Cross, addressing an audience of faculty members and alumni in the center's cafeteria, said it was appropriate that the new complex be named after Couch because "he was interested in all students. The president recalled that Couch, a botany professor, had been one of his first acquaintances when he came to OU 25 years ago. "Whenever we needed something, it was simply a matter of getting on the phone and calling Glenn Couch," he said...Couch, who served as dean of university college, OU's freshman division, founded the University Scholars program for academically outstanding students. As a tribute, participants in the program voted to name their group after Couch. (photo tag: Tower dorm rises high above campus.)"
