Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Billowing Black Smoke covered vast areas of Oklahoma City Tuesday night as the Rounds and Porter Co. warehouse, 853 NW 2, was consumed by a four-alarm fire. A brisk south wind sent heavy smoke over the entire northwest section of the city. Construction materials stored in the building provided the fuel for the raging inferno. Firefighters battled the blaze nearly three hours before they were able to enter the building and get at the heart of the fire. The picture at left shows an aerail ladder being used to throw water on top of the blaze. At right, smoke billows above the blaze. Firemen were still at the scene late wednesday morning."

Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Firemen continued Wednesday fighting a $1 million blaze that swept through the Rounds & Porter Co. warehouse, 853 NW 2, Tuesday night. Cause of the fire, reported at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, still is undetermined, "but there is something peculiar about it," Chief Inspector John Anderson said Wednesday. "We have no idea what started the fire," he expalined, "but there was a false alarm turned in from a call box in front of the warehouse at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday morning," Anderson explained. Thus was 11 hours earlier. An investigation is under way. The 3-alarm blaze is listed by firemen as on of the worst in the vity's history. District Fire Chief Ben Dancey said 12 engine companies, three truck companies, two squad companies and three tank pumpers were brought to the battle. Dancey estimated more than 150 to 200 firemen fought the fire including about 100 off-duty firemen. Heavy smoke overcame several firemen, Dancey said. Twisted steel beems lie in rubbish."
