The three-alarm fire did damage estimated at $10,000, officials said Tuesday, much less than the original loss estimated of $75,000 to $100,000. the building was being razed when the fire broke out. Foreman of the wrecking crew, C. S. Wilkerson, is shown here. Fire inspector Berth Keuhnert said firemen were "very fortunate" in getting the flames controlled befor high winds and rains hit the area after midnight."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Firemen battles 3-alarm blaze Monday night from ladder truck at Armour and Co. plant. A three-alarm blaze leveled a four-story building, damaged two others and endangered several more at the Oklahoma City stockyards Monday night. Damage was estimated at between $75,000 and $100,000. Destroyed was the maintenance building of unoccupied Armour and Co. Twenty units of firefighting equipment were deployed to contain the fire. First alarm went in at 8:15 p.m. Firemen arriving at the scene sounded the second alarm at 8:17 and the third at 8:19. Sparks, Cinders Drift Firemen battled for more than 2 1/2 hours to contain the blaze in the Armour building, located just west of the "kill" and cold storage buildings. Two adjacent structures were damaged......Sparks endangered Wilson & Co. buildings on the west, and a huge mule barn about 400 yards northwest."
