Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "One of Bethany's toughest prolems is about to be softened. The hard water that has plagued this 12,000 member community should turn noticeably soft by June. A $375,000 water-softening plat is under construction at NW 50 near the canal which links Lake Hefner and Overholser. From the big tanks, piles of steel rods and mounds of dirt used in the project, will come water rated at only five grains of hardness...Harry Macrory, city manager, says the plant is designed to handle the water supply for a minimum population of between 25,000 and 30,000-an estimate of the city's potential maximum growth. To finance the project, Bethany water users are paying increased water rate of 25 cents per 1,000 gallons. Water rates went up in September. The rate increase was approved by Bethany voters last February when the entire project was given a resounding "yes" vote at the polls - 1.141 to 146. (photo tag: Soft water will be flowing in Bethany from this plant in June.)"
