The new super highway will link the southeast and southwest sections of Oklahoma City. it generally will follow SE 74 from Interstate Highway 35 westward. When another new highway, the West Bypass, is completed it will connect with the South Bypass at a point one-half mile west of May Avenue. the proposed West Bypass will run along the eastside of Will Rogers Airport. Another proposed highway will link the South Bypass with the southside of Tinker Air Force Base. Although not part of the Interstate System, the South Bypass is a federal highway project. The Oklahoma City Safety Council Tuesday declared it the most hazardous for last year, when a whopping 63 accidents happened there. Other dangerous intersections were identified by the council as NW 23 and Robinson; NE 36 and Lincoln; NW 16 and Indiana; SW 30 and Linn; NW 36 and May and NW Expressway and May. These intersections also produce the most serious accidents, the council said, and should be approached at reduced speed, with each motorist's foot on his brake pedal, ready to stop."

Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Unlce Sam's military planes are sort of like Mac Arthur - they don't die, they just fade away and then return. Proof of this can be seen from Douglas avenue bordering Tinker Air Force base on the east. It's here, in the southeast corner, that obsolete planes are lined up waiting the guillotine. Guillotine in this instance is a huge knife-like chunk of cemente used with a cane to demolish old planes and get then ready for the melting pot. Work is done by the redistribution and marketing service at Tinker. It revolves around the defense effort in that planes are melted down in order to demilitarize them...Once, the aluminum is in ingot form, it is sold to dealers and eventually winds up in new aircraft which is sold again to Uncle Sam. "It's sort of like selling a pig - the only thing we don't sell is the squeal," Lloyd Moon explained."

This includes a $980,000 contract with Frix & Foster Construction Co. of Muskogee for grading and drainage...Stanley Draper, managing director of the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, last week told chamber directors the expressway would help "put Oklahoma in the middle of the nation's missile defense program." The expressway will become a link between Tinker Air Force Base and Fort Sill, Wichita Falls and Altus, all important military and missile installations.
