Three and a half years ago the people of Oklahoma County agreed to share the cost of three new bridges across the Canadian River. About the first of May the fruits of their effort will become a reality. The State Highway Commission has indicated the first of Twin bridges that span the Canadian and May Avenue will be open to traffic in about two months. The second part of the span will open a couple of months later. The existing bridge, now closed to traffic, will be dismantled. When completed, the two-lane May Avenue bridge will carry one-way traffic across the river. The bridge - along with two others - were approved by county voters in a $5,985,000 bond issue in the fall of 1957. The other bridges, now in use, span the river at S Pennsylvania and S Agnew. County residents are contributing 25 percent of the cost of the May Avenue bridge, the state 25 percent and the federal government 50 percent."

Caption: "Billowing Black Smoke covered vast areas of Oklahoma City Tuesday night as the Rounds and Porter Co. warehouse, 853 NW 2, was consumed by a four-alarm fire. A brisk south wind sent heavy smoke over the entire northwest section of the city. Construction materials stored in the building provided the fuel for the raging inferno. Firefighters battled the blaze nearly three hours before they were able to enter the building and get at the heart of the fire. The picture at left shows an aerail ladder being used to throw water on top of the blaze. At right, smoke billows above the blaze. Firemen were still at the scene late wednesday morning."

Caption: "Mammoth Eufuala Dam, under construction since 1956, will impound a reservoir, entirely within the state, that will overshadow even Lake Texoma which Oklahoma shares with Texas. Construction of Eufaula dam is near midway point. Water is to be available for power in 1964 and the lake is to be filled by 1965. Six eastern Oklahoma counties will share a direct benefit from the huge, new reservoir. it will extend into each of them. But the new lake, which will have a surface area 7,000 acres greater than Lake Texoma, presently the state's largest, will be a big recreational attraction for the entire state. Heavy western Oklahoma traffic is expected to be able to zoom to the Eufaula areaon high-speed, four lane I.H. 40 eventually. The first part of the 70-mile per hour freeway already is started. The reservoir will be principally in McIntosh, Haskell, Pittsburg and Okmilgee counties, but smaller areas will touch Muskogee and Latimer counties. Surface of its power pool will cover 102,5000 acres, compared with only 95,400 acres for Lake Texoma......Initial construction on this project to dam the waters of the Canadian between two bluff approcimately …

Four families on Ferguson Dr. were quietly rebuilding their lives Wednesday. The father of a fifth family was in Texas where his wife and younf son are hospialized with serious burns. His other two children died as a result of the crash and explosion of a jet fighter Friday in Midwest City. A ground crater in the backyard of a home at 337, formely occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Foy Hurst and their son Foy jr., shows where the nose of the jet first hit the ground. Two doors away at 325, the plane came to rest in the Donald Tuttle home, exploding in a sheet of fire which killed Tibbie Lynn Tuttle, 2, and caused fatal burns to Judith, 4. The Tuttle house is a skeleton of charred timbers and rubble that was furniture."

Caption: "The Large And The Small, the new and the old of the 305th Air Force Reserve Troop Carrier Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base are illustrated here. The large and the new are two C-124's, with which the unit is now being equipped. The old and the small is the plane in the center, a C-119, which the unit has had for some time and is now losing. The 60-man group of 305th pilots in front of the C-119 represents the number of passengers that can be carried aboard the plane; while the two 150-man formations leading to each of the C-124's represent only three-fourths of the passenger load for the four-engine planes. Maximum load on the planes in 200. Lt. Col. Edwin J. Angelo, commander of the 305th, stands at attention in front of his men and their planes, old and new."

Lewis Barton, chairman of the $65 million trust handling construction breaks the paper plug in the first joint during Wednesday's ceremonies. About 200 citizens from communities between Oklahoma City and Atoka toured the project and visited the Lock Joint Pipe Co. plant at Ada where the 20-foot section are made. the pipeline will bring water 100 miles from Lake Atoka. Completion is scheduled early in 1964."

It was Will Rogers airport, where all but nominal show of activity was suspended. The suspension was called for exercise Sky Shield II - the testing of NORAD (North American Defense Command).......At regional office of the 32nd NORAD, located near Tinker Air Force Base, and under the command of Maj. Gen. Thomas J. Gent, plotters were at work in the giant control room, marketing the progress of each authorized military and non-military flight. (Not dated or confirmed newspaper) Sky Shield II is the latest of a series of such exercises conducted over the few years...Meanwhile, an "attack" force made up of Startegic Air Command B-47 and B-52 bombers operating from offshore bases, with a dozen or more British Royal Air Force V-Bombers, converged on the continent "from all directions," NORAD officers said......."Every," was the word William O. Coleman, airport manager used in his second floor office, just below a silent control tower......"Well, it'll be tomorrow. There's something uncomfrotable about it, something maybe even a little terryfying." Wiley Post and Downtown Air Park were deserted."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "This tent was blown down by 50-mile-per-hour wind an hour before a revival began Sunday at SW 36 and Newcastle Rd. High winds and blowing dust trailed a cool front across the west and central portions of the state Sunday. Skies were mostly fair. Westerly winds gusted as high as 50 miles per hour. A considerable amount of dust was in the air. In Oklahoma City, a 3,000-capacity tent was torn and retained poles pulled down about an hour before a revival was to start at SW 36 and Newcastle Road...Evangelist Gene Ewing, Fort Worth, was preparing for the revival about 1:30 p.m. when the winds hit. Several persons inside the tent escaped unhurt. Rev. Ewing planned to continue his revival series with open-air services. The tent was declared a total loss."
